  1. E/E E/VG E/VG One of the reviewers seems to have misunderstood my accomplishments, but it was more to do with the specific area they were in rather than the actual quality of them. Wasn't expecting it, but super-excited. Actually, I didn't get an email from them, just happened to check the website right after the results were posted. They said emails had been sent and I assumed I didn't get it because I didn't get the email. Went to see who did get it and saw my name.
  2. My school's academic advisor talking about letters of recommendation for another student: Her: "Well, he hasn't graduated yet, so I'm not writing the letter; he can't apply for PhD until he finishes his Master's" Me: "I think that even though he's not done, he will graduate next semester, so it's typical to apply during the last year" Her: "I will wait until he's graduated to write the letter." This went on for a few minutes. I don't actually know who he was, otherwise I would have contacted him and said to get a letter from someone else. :-( And this is the person we're supposed to go to for advice on career plans.

  4. You cite your own paper twice in your SOP, but it shows up as 2 separate references with inconsistent word ordering of the title. You forget to re-bibTeX the SOP and you submit a document full of [?]
  5. 24. Took a few years off between high school and undergrad, but applying to programs straight after 4-year BS/MS program.
  6. Why would you want to go to some random tech school in Massachusetts instead of (big state school)?
  7. Same here, even though I'm pretty sure it's a no.
