  1. so I don't have any zumba connections in Denver but I posted to our Louisiana Zumba instructor page to see if anyone else does, but just in general, I'd say you could find someone else, maybe a newer instructor or just someone more into the charity aspect of it who is willing to do it for cheaper or free...I personally feel like this guy sounds like a douche if he wants to charge you that much for an awareness event...
  2. haha welll, it really depends on the area, I usually do events like that on a volunteer basis, when events like that do offer to pay me I'm very flexible, my average hourly rate at like a gym is $25/hour so I'll tell them that but say that it's negotiable...where are you? I may have Zumba connections near you that I could figure out the going rate, or just be open with them, maybe figure out what your budget is and ask them what they typically charge, because every instructor is different too, some instructors here charge $35 or $40 an hour, but this is just a side gig for me so I tend to work for cheaper...but if what they want is way out of your budget just be honest with them and ask if maybe they could recommend someone else who would be more in your price range? Zumba instructors tend to be reallllllly approachable and super easy to just be honest and work stuff out with Good luck!
  3. haha I feel the same...how ever will I procrastinate without you guys?!
  4. I think I did...I mean I'm not sure what I really need to do to officially accept, the email just said let us know as soon as possible if you won't be doing it, and I already sent in my consent form, but I haven't heard anything back about that, and then I've gotten a few more emails of information, but all of them just say you'll be getting more info in the mail...
  5. I also haven't gotten any of the snail mail info I've been promised...and I found out about 3 weeks ago now :/
  6. that's actually why I started eating meat again...being in Europe and having people cook for me and not wanting to sound like a douche...also, it helps get into the culture more, experience what they eat on a daily basis...
  7. ooooh I was a veg head for 3 years, ever been to top dog in berkeley??? BEST veggie dog ever!!! there's a vegetarian restaurant...well actually a vegan restaurant I think it's called the Chicago Diner? everything was SO delicious, I got the veggie reuben and it was amazing!
  8. haha, I'm the same exact way!! I spend my trips home (to chicago) eating like 5 meals a day just to fit in all my favorite restaurants...and Teddy's Red Hots' Italian Beef is ALWAYS on the list!! mmmmmmmmm
  9. yessss I am an avid couch surfer! ha...I guess I've sort of already invited myself to visit other fulbrighters, we should make a fb group if you're interested in being involved in that you could post like what country/city you wanna go to and if you're in that city and see someone posting abt you can get in touch with them...
  10. congrats to everyone who just found out good news! That was quite a way to start a new week! And I'm so sorry for everyone who didn't get the news they wanted to hear, I feel like reading all of these results always sends me on a roller coaster of emotions, I really feel for every one I read...

  15. it was my impression that it would be your only insurance, on your medical release it has you fill out if you will have your own, private insurance for that time and it says if you will, this will be your sole insurance, so I assumed if you have your own, they won't give you the insurance benefits, if you don't, then you get theirs...
  16. whew, glad I'm not the only one who had no idea what was going on!
  17. nooooooo!!!! don't lose all hope yet! You've seen all the people who have been bumped up to a full grant! It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings, and I ain't singin' yet!!!
  18. yayyy!!!! congrats!! your wait is finally over!!!!
  19. haha yeah, I applied to a graduate program in Croatia in 2009 and at the time I didn't have Croatian citizenship so they were like well we'll have to figure out how much we need to charge you, and then sent me this super apologetic email all like, we are so sorry but in order to do our PhD program we'll have to charge you $1,000 a year, I was like um...wow...I'll take it! haha
  20. yayyy!! congrats! I've always wanted to go to Montenegro, almost went on a rafting trip there last summer but I ran out of time, maybe we can meet up, I'll be in Croatia and would LOVE to visit you
  21. Just got a rejection from Boren, I preferred the Fulbright anyway but I applied to both because I just REALLY wanted to do my project so I figured 2 shots was better than 1, and I thought my project fit into the scope of Boren better than Fulbright, couldn't be happier with how this turned out but getting the rejection from Boren makes me all the more grateful that I was successful with Fulbright...and it's good practice for the multitudes of funding rejections I'm sure I'll be getting as my career moves forward...or so I hear that's how it goes...
  22. Congrats!! I'm planning a trip to Sweden in the couple of weeks before my program starts in October, I may have to hit you up for tips as it gets closer, will you be there already? and do you know where you'll be yet?
  23. oooh...that's a doozie! hm...first of all, Congrats!! I also want to totally agree with your feelings about NOT getting something being the best thing that ever happened to you, I had a very similar experience my senior year of college and I just keep thinking man, I'm SO glad I didn't get it because who knows where I would be right now, but it certainly wouldn't be here and I don't want to be anywhere else! As for your little dilemma, I would say do what feels right to you. Neither choice is a BAD choice, and if it were me, I would really WANT to stay somewhere familiar where I KNOW I am happy, but I would probably choose to take the Fulbright...you've had great experiences in Galicia and nothing will take those experiences away, but you will probably have great experiences in Andorra as well and all you risk really losing out on is experiencing another place, so I'd say take it, appreciate what Galicia has done for you, and look forward to new and different things! But that's just me...I am totally and completely 100% nomadic by nature so if that's not you, then probably just forget I said anything Be sure to let us know what you decide!
  24. You have to make sure you have an international phone first, the cellular frequencies are different in Europe than they are here and not all of our phones are made to work with them, then in my experience I've just suspended my service here and gotten a pay as you go phone there...one where you just reload the minutes as you use them, they're everywhere there and super affordable! Also, the one I got in Australia was great because every reload I got included a certain amount of time of international calling so I had to call home every time I reloaded my phone just to burn up those minutes. Also, you can set up a google voice account with your US cell # so even when your service is suspended, all that happens is it goes straight to voicemail, so if you link it to a google voice account, you get those voicemails emailed to you so you can still get messages people leave you back home!
