Just got my rejection.
May I ask which branch and whether it is masters or PhD ?

I think your assessment is probably right. I've heard that the majority of places admit in waves, so the people who are definitely in will get accepted first, then there's some discussion about the remaining pool of applicants while they wait to see who gets external fellowships and whatnot.
I'm also fearing that 3/1 will be "reject day." I didn't have really high hopes in the first place, but this waiting is killing me because MIT is my dream program*. I just want to get the rejection pain over with and move on with my life!
There's a Civil thread on the Engineering board where somebody posted that they got a scanned MIT acceptance letter circa 2/20/13. They were in Mechanics of Materials and Structures. That's the only thing I've seen outside of the results page.
* mine and everybody else's in the world, I know!
The problem is you can not generalize this to the whole department. Different branches give acceptances on different days, there is also the waitlist process.
Moreover they don't really wait weeks to send a rejection email, it is usually one day after they gave the final acceptances, afterall waiting for weeks to send a confirmed rejection letter does not make sense.
Again I have only seen some admits on 20th of February and silence since then. 3/1 may be a rejection day but they might give some acceptances till Friday.
BTW it seems they started giving out rejections...

I really hope that you are right TOApplicant. It would be great to hear from people who got accepted...
Yeah, best of luck to you too.
Btw I have seen a rejection on the results page.

I seriously think that admits have been sent out already... What is remaining is rejects for Friday. But I really hope this is not the case... I know for sure that MIT never releases rejects and admits on the same day. The admits get to know 1-2 weeks before and then all the rejects here later. So i hope March 1st is an admit day not a reject day.. If that made any sense.
Anybody here specifically applying to the MST Program?
I seriously dont want to be pessimistic but it is hard.
It seems last year people heard back different times (days even weeks between admissions) moreover the admits started late February and continued until the second half of March. Also it seems there are very few results which came the same day on the results page compared to last years.
I don't know maybe I just want to find a reason to wait. I applied for transportation (PhD) btw.

I have seen some admits last week and it has been silent since then, I assume there will be more admits.
Now since we know that the decisions will be made by march 1 does this mean that if we don't hear anything until this Friday then we are rejected?
