Thank you so much for your advice! I was thinking along those lines but it's always good to have other people's opinions

I would like some advice if anyone can give it! I need three letters of recommendation for most of my schools. So far I have asked my research mentor (who is also the head of my undergrad's grad program) and my Clinical Process teacher. I just need to ask my last person. Here are my ideas/opinions.... 1. One of the clinic supervisors at my school. I volunteer in his selective mutism sessions (play with the kids, collect data, ect). My brother has selective mutism so we have had many discussions about it. He has asked me if I'm applying to my undergrad's grad school and asked me for my stats. 2. My Aural Rehab teacher. I have never had to work so hard in a class and I go to her office hours all the time. I have an A now but I started with a B. 3. My Neuroanatomy teacher. His class is notoriously difficult but I am doing very well. I answer most of his review questions at the beginning of each class. I have been to his office hours once. Does anyone have any input about these options? Thanks!

It is exciting! It made the process seem more "real" if that makes sense. That's very interesting! My older brother (who is disabled) has selective mutism. He would not talk in school and now that he's in his work program he won't talk there either. But he talks your ear off at home, at the grocery store, ect. I do research currently but it is on spelling development, not selective mutism. I volunteer every week with a selective mutism therapy group though. I personally believe from the research that I've done and the sessions I have volunteered with that it is a combination of a language problem and a psychological problem.

Asked my second LOR writer today and she said yes! Now I just need one more for some of my applications. I asked my research mentor (who is also the head of the USF grad school) and my current Clinical Process teacher. I just can't decide on my third one. Should I ask a teacher I had for a research course who also is also in charge of my undergraduate research certificate program or should I ask my current Aural Rehab teacher? This is difficult!

I've heard of people doing this too.

I have to fill out the CSDCAS but only one of my schools uses it! All the others have their own applications. Ugh such a waste of time!

Good luck!! I'm worried about how to get LORs. I'm going to ask my research mentor for one but I can't figure out who to ask for the other one. My teachers tend to know that I do well in the course but I don't really visit them or anything. I'm a little shy with teachers :/ Is it okay to ask a teacher just because you did really well in their course? For reference, I had this teacher for two courses (Phonetics & Speech Science) and earned A+s in both.

I know how you feel! I actually got an email saying my scores were ready but then the website will not let me view them. It kept saying my information doesn't match their records but I literally copy-pasted from their emails. I just emailed ETS. Grrrr.

I used "Verbal Workout for the New GRE" published by the Princeton Review. I went through the whole book and found it really helpful. I honestly didn't focus as much on the words as I probably should have. I reviewed the ones in the book and in Kaplan's GRE book but I mainly relied on Latin roots from my high school Latin courses. Sorry that's not very helpful. Okay thank you!

Hey everyone! I'm Ellen. I'm a senior at the University of South Florida majoring in Communication Sciences and Disorders with a minor in Sociology and a certificate (essentially a minor) in Undergraduate Research. I will be applying for the Fall 2014 application season. I'm excited but nervous! My brother is my reason for entering the field of speech pathology. My brother has cerebral palsy, ADHD, seizure disorders, and a few other medical issues. He's 22 but his mental age is about 5. He used to be completely non-verbal. His speech therapist was able to get him from being non-verbal to talking in almost full sentences (when he feels like it haha). She has improved his quality of life so much. I want to be able to help people like she does. I have a 4.0 in the major and a 3.97 overall GPA. I'm in the Honors College at USF so I am currently working on my Honors thesis. I have been researching with the department since my second year at USF (which was my junior year - I'm graduating early) and am going to make that project my Honors thesis. My research mentor and I are working on a project concerning spelling error patterns in children. It's really interesting. Plus my mentor is brilliant. I just took the GRE today. I scored a 161 V and 155 Q. I'm pretty happy with those scores, especially since PowerPrep was giving me a much lower verbal score. I'm anxious to get my writing score. Normally I'm a good writer but we will see. I am starting my clinic observation hours at USF this semester. I'm excited! During the summers I observe with my brother's speech pathologist. She's amazing. During the summers I also work as a child care worker for a family support organization. My coworker and I watch the children while their parents receive parenting classes. Many of our children have speech-related issues, emotional issues, and behavioral issues. It's hard work but it is so rewarding. During the summers I am also one of the main caregivers for my brother and a cook at a bar. I plan to apply to Montclair State University, William Paterson University, Seton Hall University, East Stroudsburg University, Kean University, and University of South Florida. I'm mainly looking at NJ/PA schools. I grew up in New Jersey and spend my summers and school breaks there. I'm getting married in May 2014 and my fiancé and I would really like to stay in NJ (where he lives currently). So location is key for me!

Thank you! Your stats look great too! How long did it take for you to get your writing score?

Just updating because I took my GRE today! 161 V, 155 Q. I'm very happy with those scores. Edited to make my scores easier to read.

Hey everyone! I'm going into my senior year at the University of South Florida (go Bulls!) studying Communication Sciences and Disorders. I'm obsessed with this field and am definitely going to get obsessed with this website! My brother has cerebral palsy which affects his cognition (mental age is about 5; he's 22) and his speech. He has seen his speech therapist for almost 20 years. She got him from being completely non-verbal and relying on sign language to talking in almost full sentences. It is because of her that I fell in love with this field. I really want to work with elementary age children in the school system to start but eventually I want to transition to private practice. I have a 3.97 overall GPA and a 4.0 major GPA. I work as a research assistant at USF. My mentor and I are working on a project concerning linguistic feature patterns in misspellings of children grades 1-7. We have been working on it since Fall 2012. I'm in the Honors College at USF which requires you to do a honors thesis. So that project is going to be mine. I'm taking the GRE in September and I'm really nervous! I generally test well if the SAT is any indicator but I'm still really nervous. During the summers and breaks I work as a child care worker for children with difficult family situations. My coworker and I watch the children and play games and such with them while their parents receive parenting classes. I also work as a cook but that is not as interesting. I'm applying for the 2014-2015 school year. My current list is William Paterson University, Seton Hall University, Montclair State University, Kean University, East Stroudsburg University, and USF. I'm mostly looking at NJ/PA schools - I'm getting married in May 2014 right after undergrad graduation and my fiancé and I plan to stay in our home state of NJ. But we will see!
