I interviewed with BU last year. They contacted me via e-mail. If I recall correctly, they specified an interview date in the e-mail and I had to coordinate a time on that day that would be suitable for both myself and the professor interviewing me. As I was living quite far from Boston, we set up a Skype interview. Good luck! E.

Vandy, one of the best programs in the country is pretty much 'begging' you to join.... I'd put my eggs in that basket personally:)

Student Loans / Loan Forgiveness, etc.

Mystique, Just a thought, but what about 'accepting' at NYU, deferring for the year, and re-apply for next year. This would guarantee your spot at NYU as well as give you an opportunity to find a cheaper school (assuming the $ is going to stress you out...) Just a thought... Ee -
Hey sklimas42, Based on your comment:"Are the programs all really equally great for graduates coming from them? Would I be able to get a job anywhere in the country coming from a less well-known program like Emerson's?" i think all the programs are great, but I don't think they're equal. MGH is obviously more Medical focused, BU is perhaps more research focused, Emerson might be more pediatric focused, but at the end of the day you have to feel good with your decision. Somebody in this thread already made a point which was, all the schools in Boston are really great, and they have very fantastic things to offer. Given the field of speech pathology is so in need, I do think you will have many choices regarding jobs after you graduate. All things equal, it is what you make of it. I think if you decide to go to Emerson, it will have been the right choice no matter what choice you've made. One thing I am 100% certain of is that You're going to be just fine :-) Congratulations, Ee.

Lele, Sounds like you gotta go for Emerson You have a scholarship, you get to be in Boston, what is it about Emerson that doesn't convince you Or that makes you hesitate? Furthermore, in my experience, if you want to do research, then just make it happen. You know what I mean? If you want it, you'll get it type of thing. Keep pushing, I think you're close to a decision Ee. By the way, I'm all the way for MGH for many of the reasons expressed by FutureMSSLP

Dream School or Free School?
eerichh replied to MakinChoices's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I am in a similar predicament: Tuition + assistantship from my local University compared to my dream school. This is a very personal choice, but for me, I chose my dream school. I don't want to compromise my education for anything, even though it will cost a few extra paychecks out of school. In my case, and after doing my research on all the programs I applied to, I believe this is the best choice for me, given my current/future goals. Obviously, money is a factor, but if I remind myself why I'm going into this field, and what I want to achieve with respect to my life-long goals, I want to make sure that when I look back 10 or 20 years, I want to know that I gave myself the best opportunity to be successful. This does not mean that my local university won't give me a great a education, I just want to go for what I think is 'the best' without compromise. I (and you) have worked hard to get to this point, and any type of 'dream' acceptance is a gift. Lastly, I can't help but think of the definition of 'luck'. Where, preparation and hard work collide. I consider myself 'lucky' to have an acceptance at a dream school, And again, this luck was based on my (your) own merit. Good luck with your decision. Ee. -
Hey Magenta, Ocaamstoothbrush, SLP2013, I'm in a similar boat here, waiting on scholarship stuff from BU. I did get one from MGH and am 95% leaning there. Have any of you made a decision yet?

Math Section GRE for Masters Speech Pathology
eerichh replied to BlueEyes's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Believe me it's Mind over matter. It's a question of how bad do you want it. My first degree was in languages, my second degree was in computer engineering. What I needed to do to transfer my mind set into engineering was just a matter of attitude. My point is, if you don't think you can do it, you won't be able to do it. If you start believing in yourself, you will be amazed at what you can overcome. -

The website states: "Applicants that met the early deadline for our programs that begin in the fall can expect to receive an admission decision via email around the middle-to-end of March". So, it' could be as early as the end of the week ... (according to the website)

Advice for math: practice practice practice. When I started, my score was in the 27th percentile. After 4 months of practice, I ended up in the 77th percentile. Practice as much as you can and don't give up!!! -

MGH Institute of Health Professions
eerichh replied to jdi022's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
The reason I've decided on MGH is because of their medical training. It's one of the best (maybe the best) in terms of having access and directive towards a more medically trained SLP education. I'm all about adult neurological disorders, and therefore having access to world class clinics makes it worthwhile for me. Basically, if you want a general SLP education, that does not focus or specialize on a particular subject/concentration, then I would suggest going for the cheapest option. On the other hand, if you are absolutely passionate about an area, then go for the school that you think would grant you the most opportunities in that field. (This is obviously only my opinion but that's what the forum's for ) Really wish you good luck in your decision!
