tuckerma, being wooed... that is kind of funny! I did go back and look at the letter, the comment about the open house is in a different size font in mine... not sure what that means but they may have been piecing the letters together from templates and accidentally omitted it from yours?

Tuckerma, It was mentioned in the first paragraph of the letter I received... though no time was given: "Congratulations! .... You are invited to a departmental Open House on Friday, April 5. Please save the date if you can and RSVP to slhsgrad@colorado.edu as soon as possible if you plan to attend." (emphasis added by me)

It's a little embarrassing to acknowledge how much of a ride this whole process has been, and I wonder what it says about me that I could end up placing so much of my personal valuation of self-worth on the opinions of an admissions committee? But introspection may simply have to wait for a bit.

CONGRATS!!!! I'm kind of ashamed to admit how much of an emotional roller-coaster this whole admissions process has been. However, it feels so great to be down safely on the ground. Are you going to the open house?

I don't know either. I did respond to the email with that question. I'll let you know if I hear anything. I would imagine they are pretty busy around there right now.

Wow, that is absolutely no fun! Things like this make me paranoid that it could go the other way. Receive an acceptance, and turns out it's a denial.

Hi, I am in the two year program as well, finishing pre-reqs now. I do plan on accepting this offer. Good luck, it may help that because the program is as selective as it is (though they took me... so there may be debates on that latter statement) that accepted people will have a lot of choices and more will decline the offer.

WOW... what... huh... Shocked, surprised, humbled, grateful... and so many more things. I just got accepted into UC Boulder... a huge reach. My brain is a puddle of mush right now.

Thank you so much for checking! I had already resigned to a denial, but there was a tiny bit of hope this morning. It'll be nice to finally confirm and move on to other options. congrats again!

Hi Tuckerma, That is just... wow even before anything like living expenses. I don't see how you would ever get out from under it! I'm already panicked about the possible (not accepted anywhere yet) overall cost of an in-state public school trying to use that old rule of don't take out more in loans than you would make in salary your first year.

Hi Midnight, Thanks for the pick-me-up! As I may have mentioned... the decent into madness continues to accelerate with the VSI now pegged, so any kind words are appreciated. I was really hoping my GRE scores would be good enough to balance out my GPA. From what I have heard, many adcomms only view a GRE score as a defining criteria if it is REALLY good or REALLY bad; anything in the middle (even if it is closer to one end than the other) is just seen as a reason to not reject the candidate. I could be wrong, but I know one of my professors from Pitt told me that's how his department looks at them and that he was not alone. Hopefully today we'll hear something from UC Boulder, and I hope to have heard from the other 3 programs I applied to this week as well. I have my fingers crossed for you! -Chris

Oh I have done the same thing so many times! WHY didn't I spend more time on studying GRE math... I'm sure I could eek 2-4 more points there? Could my CV be better if a couple more people had looked it over? WHY didn't I apply to 1-2 more programs that were more realistic to get into? I had to make a solemn vow to not re-pick-apart my SOPs once apps were in. I'm also kicking myself because I didn't know quite how competitive things were until later in the process. I know you want to make it out to CO, and I'm wishing you all the best!

Gah, I don't know if it's just weeks of waiting expecting to hear something each day, seeing everyone else hear back, or just the fact that I know I'll hear something from 4 schools this week... but at any rate the decent into madness is accelerating at an alarming pace. I would think so. If they already sent at least some of the wait list, I would imagine that they have made decisions but need people to put the info in the system. I don't see anything in my CU application portal, but I'm expecting a rejection so I'm a little less nervous.

Thank you for the details. I didn't get that email, but it helps me to understand that the list isn't EVERY student that was not offered a guaranteed spot. Good luck on the CU waitlist, maybe you'll open a spot up for me there or I'll hear something good from Wyoming. Have a great weekend! -Chris

The only crazy logic I can come up with is that they have to run acceptances by financial aid first, and the rejections... well no rush there. I'm fully anticipating a flat rejection, but there is that ever-lasting shred of hope that just makes me want to hear back to know for sure! I'm pretty much resigned to having to make it through the weekend. -Chris

I only saw three from UC Boulder... but the obsessing will happen whether I am on a forum or... not. I just wish I could hear from everyone at once.

I have a couple of kiddos on my caseload (one living with ASD) who are obsessed with HP, so I started re-reading the books to both distract me and to have a connection. Oh the things we will do until April 15th!
