  1. Mine has been stuck on "recommended for assessment" for three weeks. Was told two weeks ago by the Department admin that I should hear something definite by last Mon/Tues. No change, no word. Losing my mind!
  2. fast fast car [i was responding to lit cigar. Which was on page 5 of about 540. New to this discussion board thing. Ha. Womp.]
  3. I have been accepted to the English PhD program at FSU. Still waiting to hear back from a few other schools, so I have not made a final decision at this point. I am attending an Open House at FSU in the next few weeks, so I suppose some of my questions will be answered then, but what is the "climate" of the department there? While I am super enthused about the Textual Technologies concentration, the department seems to be weighted heavily on the side of Early Modern studies and Creative Writing. I, on the other hand, am a Modernist studies person, and my research is primarily in periodical studies and print culture. So I am a little nervous that I won't find a "niche" there. If any of you that are there or know anything about the department second hand, I would so appreciate the break down, as it were.
  4. I've emailed the graduate directors when needed, or otherwise the admin from whom most email contacts have come. In 4 out of 5 instances, I have gotten very swift, friendly, and kind replies (though not all with good news) ... I just emailed along the lines of "I was wondering whether I might check on the current status of my PhD application for Fall 2013, or if you might have any indication of when final decisions will be sent out. [Thank you for your time, etc, etc]"
  5. This is funny because this amendment to specify that the page was limited to MSW was made the same day that I pointed the site out to the English Department. Oops.
  6. This thread was SO helpful. Thank you. It seems that there is still hope.
  7. I'm sorry, Supplicant-- didn't realize you had gotten bad news so recently. Thanks for the optimism. I would personally prefer that they just leave the status blank or at "all documents received" until they make a final decision. It's too confusing. Guess i'll have to let it go until next week [fingers crossed].
  8. And now I see that what is going to happen is that I am going to check this thread just as obsessively as I have been checking my email at any irrational hour of the day, while also checking my email no less often and no less compulsively. Haha. Great. I would do best to get a Magic 8 ball and ask it about my admission. And have a glass of wine.
  9. Sorry. Yuck. That's weird, though, cause the Grad Administrator responded to my email that the definition [which I quoted] of that status was accurate, and that the Grad Committee had my package and would be meeting today to discuss offers... she said I would hear back Mon/Tues. When did yours change? Was you app also for English, this round?
  10. My PhD app status for English changed last week to "recommended for assessment." The MSW website says that this means that "we would like to make you an offer but details are still being sorted out." The English Department acknowledged via email that this definition was accurate, but then the Grad & Doctoral Faculty Dept sent me an email saying that it means nothing in particular other than that my application will be "assessed." I was told I should know something definite by Mon or Tues, but the wait is SOOOO frustrating. I would prefer just an "accepted" or "Denied" status .... this new status is so hopeful yet so nebulous. Afraid to get my hopes up, but its hard not to with all of the mixed messages. Anyone else get this status or have any clearer of an idea of what this means? Ugh.
