I am going to start my PhD at UConn this fall. As I don't have a car--and can't have one in the future for some personal reasons--, I find places located in Mansfield or Willimantic is best for my needs. What makes me worry is the horrible opinions about the places on this thread. Is it so terrible to live in those areas as a grad student? What I most care is 1) public transit, 2) safety, 3) access to stores or Walmart and 4) price. I don't care about having roommates or not having places to have fun. I very appreciate any advice about my preferences!
  2. To the posters claiming an U of T PhD acceptance: Did you get your offer on 7th or this morning? People say that the program is sending out more offers early this week, but it seems still silent on the results board.
  3. Thanks. What makes me confused is they receive their application via the GSAS application form, not the HKS one. Also, those students should finish the requirements for Government students. I am little bit worried that people tend to think HKS is professional rather than academic, since my career goal is to teach.
  4. Hello! I had a plan to apply to the Department of Government at Harvard. But recently I found that they also offered a joint program focused on social policy, and it seems to more fit my fields of interest, social policy and welfare state. Though reading their website carefully, I still don't have much information about the program. Like, which school do they belong to? GSAS? Or, HKS? What career paths their alumni have taken? At a school? Or, more professional jobs? Any information will be greatly appreciated.
  5. Anyone heard a good news from CUNY? I can find only some rejection posts on the results board. I know one applicant who was unofficially informed the offer, but no one declares official offer yet. At this point, should I call or email them for my status?
