  1. Awesome- thanks for the info! I'll keep that in mind when I'm searching. If anyone is still wondering- you can't hold external scholarships with the fellowship, although they may top up. Not surprised, but I was hopeful anyways...
  2. Hi! I have been accepted to the MA in Early Childhood Studies. I think it's a pretty small program, but if there's anyone else on here that is attending feel free to message me! Would love to meet some other incoming students ahead of the program beginning. I'm originally from Trent (for both undergrad & developmental psych MA that I'm finishing now). Thanks for starting the topic blaine241! Any areas around Ryerson that you recommend for renting apartments/condos? Areas to avoid? Does anyone know how the fellowships work? If we end up recieving OGS do we have to give up the fellowship or are we allowed to hold both? Similar question re: TA positions- at Trent we were guaranteed one as part of our funding, but that seems to be different at Ryerson.
  3. Hi all. I'm just finishing the first year of my MA and I'm trying to decide on my future- hoping for some insight. Background: I was planning on a terminal MA, but my supervisor just informed me of an upcoming research project that aligns perfectly with my interests, so now I'm considering a PhD. Currently I'm studying emergent literacy in an Aboriginal preschool population. I'm interested in evaluation and assessment, as well as curriculum development (School Psychology basically, although my MA is simply Developmental Psych). I would love to do research, but I don't want to be a professor...not my thing. So my question is- is it worth it to do a PhD if I don't want to go into academia? I've heard that it doesn't drastically improve your salary or job opportunities, unless you want an academic position. I hate to sound like I'm only doing this for the money because I truly love what I'm doing, but I'm trying to be realistic...living in Ontario is not cheap haha. No sense spending 4 more years in school unless it will impact my chances of doing what I want to be doing Any suggestions? Any Canadian psych grads out there who have found employment with a MA/MSc? Is finding a non-academic research position possible? Thanks in advance!
  4. Thanks for the response! That clears it up a bit. I didn't know they accepted so few students to the funded MAs.
  5. I applied to the Developmental Psychology and Education program at OISE. It has two streams- Master of Arts and Master of Education. I applied to the MA because I do not have any teaching qualifications. A few weeks ago I called OISE because I had another school to respond to, and they told me if I hadn't heard anything I wasn't accepted (they didn't even look up my information, which was irritating...but anyways). Today I finally received the letter from OISE- it was a rejection to the MA, which I was expected. But there was also an acceptance to the MEd. Has anyone had this happen before? How can I be accepted to something I did not apply for? I don't even think I meet the requirements. Is it a mistake? I'm afraid of getting my hopes up haha.
  6. RelaxButterfly- I'm surprised to see another Trent student! We're a rare breed on this forum haha. That's very helpful though, thanks. I haven't heard anything either so I'll take that as a good sign for now. Congrats on your successful application!
  7. Thanks for the responses. The deadline was in Feb for my school as well, so I guess I'll give it a bit more time before I start harassing the financial aid office haha. I'm an internal applicant at a smaller university (less than 400 grad students) so I have a feeling there aren't many awards to go around. Good luck to everyone else who is still waiting to hear!
  8. I know OGS is done independently through each school now, but has anyone heard about their status? This is my first time applying so I don't really know the usual timeline. Is it too early to expect results? Thanks!
  9. I applied to Developmental Psychology & Education (MA) at OISE. I got sick of waiting so I tried calling and emailing last week, with no response. Finally got through today and they told me that if I hadn't heard by now I am rejected. So frustrating! You think they could at least let us know Ah well, I was accepted elsewhere with funding so I'll live! I just thought I would post in case anyone else was still waiting to hear from OISE.
  10. Has anyone heard from OISE for the Developmental Psychology and Education program (1 yr MA)? To the other poster from Trent- I heard from them today, although I am in a different program. I don't think they update the online status. I recieved an email with a PDF version of the admission letter with funding information. Hopefully you will also hear soon! I did my undergrad there as well, fantastic school
  11. I'm also waiting on OISE, but for the Developmental Psych & Education program (1 yr MA). Has anyone heard anything? Most of the posts seem to be for clinical/counselling.
