It's true, I received mine yesterday. I was reading the booklet today to get the dirty details on funding, what's included, what's not, and so on. Anyone going to Berlin? I forget (it's been a bit of time since I've been on this board)

Good questions; I think your impressions between Fulbright and DAAD are spot on (or at least they confirm what I had thought). In regards to the university affiliation. I don't know exactly, but I am doing straight research to complete my degree here in the states. I will be working with a professor at FU Berlin, but not enrolling in a path for a degree there. I stated that I would travel to different archives throughout Germany, making brief research trips, but I don't know about working at multiple institutions that might be a different situation. Hope that helps or gives context at least!

Good news here, sorry to all who didn't receive the grant.

I dig your optimism! Thankfully I have a letter of affiliation to FU Berlin :-)

I'll join the club. This was the second rejection from Fulbright, I suppose they don't like transnational history as it questions national boarders and such. It makes it a hard sell to say you are studying colonialism in Togo, but need to research in Germany as the documents are there.
  6. Thanks, it's time to hang out in the DAAD thread now. *poof* *disappear*
  7. Alas! Nein!
  8. Haha, it wasn't too bad. This time they didn't hit nerve, so a painless event albeit a bit sore. Trying not to day dream too much about Germany, while waiting for news. Does anyone have a good cocktail they like to make in these trying times?

Oh DAAD, pithy and to the point as always. At least we have a relatively clear timetable now.
  10. Top of the morning post again. A dentist appointment in the morning and going to lecture. That should keep my mind off things for a bit, especially when they stick the needle in my mouth to numb it up. :-)
  11. Tell me about it! I am a bundle of nerves because of Fulbright, grading student essays, and getting feedback on my own papers! So much criticism (albeit constructive)!
  12. Alright, 3/22 feeling the good vibes. It's Friday! It's Friday! That means there's more of a chance to hear. Right? :-)
  13. Perhaps the famed efficiency should be replaced with notions of famed red ink and bureaucracy. :-) Edit: Congrats Bernstea!
  14. Congrats and hugs for all the UK'ers, hopefully the Germanists will be hearing soon to keep the momentum going.
  15. Another weekday has arrived. Anybody feel like we are waiting for Godot here?
