I'm hoping that Canada replies early like several of the countries so far. However, their website specifically states I'll hear back early April.

Has anyone tried to contact the Fulbright commission in the country they applied for to ask about expected announcement dates? I'm so temped to email or tweet them.

I wouldn't contact anyone! If there is an issue, deal with it after you're awarded the Fulbright. They could take your application out of the running if you speak too soon, but they won't take it away from you if there is an issue after you've been awarded

I'm so jealous about all of these notifications! Canada, historically, doesn't tell people their status till mid-April. It's so hard to wait!

I got an e-mail from Fulbright, but it was only a survey. I was so excited for a moment!

I wanted to ask everyone a question. I applied for a full grant to attend grad school and conduct research in Canada. With that said, I have some concerns. According to their website, they only offer people awarded the Fulbright a stipend of U.S.$15,000 for the award period, which is expected to cover all living expenses, tuition, and school related expenses. Well, upon reading this, I checked the cost of the University I am applying to. They currently charge roughly U.S.$7,000 for the 1 year masters. How are Fulbright recipients expected to live on roughly $900 a month in such an expensive city like Toronto?! I'd be lucky to find a place for less than $600 a month, and that is just rent alone. Anyone care to share what other fellowships you might be applying for? I'm just curious about any obscure ones I may not know about.

Can anyone explain to me the next step? I know we are either recommended or not, but then what? Does anyone know what the chances of being chosen are from that point?

I wanted to let everyone know that universities do not rank applicants anymore. They stopped this year, presumably because the fellowship advisors were skewing the ranking system to give their applicants favorable standings rather than demonstrating actual preparedness and feasibility of the project.

I wouldn't give up hope yet. I mean, look at the scholarship applicants. All of us but ONE got "the" budget e-mail. I highly doubt they have the same weight as last year...

I accidentally checked that I would be participating in more than one overseas programs, when I meant that I would be at the same location for two semesters. They just wanted to clarify what I was doing since I only listed one program.

I just received an e-mail saying, "Thank you for your continued interest in the Boren Scholarship. After some review of your application our office has a few follow up questions." They wanted clarification about something on my application. I'd say this is a good sign considering the announcements will be coming in a week? Maybe not and they're looking for people to weed out? I guess we'll see!
