  1. I have heard that if you plan to get a PhD degree in Comm Disorders, a linguistics MA is extremely competitive. One of my professors was strongly encouraging of this. His thought was that an SLP Master's and Comm Disorders PhD was more common than the Linguistics MA and Comm Disorders PhD, and so if you do that it would be marketable. But if you're not planning to get a PhD I don't think it would be worth it.
  2. congrats!!!!! ahhhh so happy. Just accepted my offer from them.
  3. I hope so! I go from confident to freaking out constantly, especially now that next week is getting closer. 58 sounds like a lot of people to admit at first glance, but those statistics look good to me close up
  4. Congrats on UT!! Hopefully I might join you... The GPA makes sense, it wasn't my strong point either, but I spent so much time studying for the GRE last year that it helped me too :-) It's funny that their admissions committees look at different things for being in the same field, maybe being so close makes it really tough on them, especially since UT is higher ranked.
  5. I found it interesting that I was rejected from Texas State, but placed well on the waitlist for UT... I thought it might have something to do with my being out of state, and they might favor their in-state applicants more? I'm not broken-hearted because it would have been a pretty long drive, and also it wasn't my first choice. Still, it would be nice to know for sure that I could stay in the area!
  6. I don't know if this helps, but they said they usually go into the waitlist, it just varies as to how far they go down.
  7. I haven't yet, their website said April when I applied, so I'm not expecting anything any time soon.
  8. I went to FIU for the Certificate program in Speech Pathology. I liked it a lot, they do like bilingual applicants since it's a bilingual program, and also they have great professors as well as not so great ones, like in any other school. They don't have a speech clinic of their own, so students are placed in internships with either professors or in other venues. The good thing is that the professors are very helpful and a lot of them have their own practices. They also don't require the GRE, which is a plus! If you're interested in Miami, you might want to check out Nova, they also have a Speech Path program, and they also don't require the GRE. I don't know as much about them, but people interested in staying in Miami often apply to both Nova and FIU.
  9. Thanks eihpos! I wonder whether we'll find out before April 15th or as we go.... I still haven't quit the habit of checking my email every hour..last week's habit stuck to me :-).
  10. Congrats to everyone who got in!!! Does anyone have any idea the likelihood of getting off the waiting list? Maybe from past years?...I think my position is pretty good but then I start wondering how many people they admitted in the first round versus how many they actually want to attend. I don't know any of these numbers except that the waitlist is 32 people long.
