  1. Thank you for such kindness and warm welcome!! No fall 2013 PhD for me (the rejection arrived a few weeks ago), but there may be a fall 2014 attempt in the future It is important that we don't give up working for what we want. It might just pay off! Wishing you all the very best with your course this fall and your application!!
  2. Eager, you give me hope! Thank you! I am STILL waiting from my choice school for a decision because my initial potential advisor fell through and the department tells me they are looking for an alternate. The pessimist in me wants to give up hope (it's JUNE!), but your positive attitude is inspiring me to take a different outlook and decide to believe that at least it's not an outright rejection (which they certainly could have done by now rather than trying to make something work). Good luck to you in your Ph.D. quest! Looks like things are going in the right direction for you. Maybe things do mysteriously work out the way they are supposed to and this is all part of the process? They certainly never (well, rarely) work out the way we expect.
  3. You ought to contact the director(s) of your program(s). I was in the same situation, and finally sent an email and got some news that way (still waiting on a decision, but at least now I know what's going on). I would email rather than call, and just politely ask if you could get a status update and let them know you are still interested. You never know what goes on behind the scenes in the department - it might not be you at all and just an administrative thing.
  4. Lol. I'm stressing about a future wedding that is in the works. It's a moderately effective distraction, because every so often I'll remember about grad school again and start getting really anxious. Grad school stress >> wedding stress!
  5. Thanks for the encouragement acquablu. You're right, each program is different. Looks like you're in a similar boat...but I guess we all are or we wouldn't be on this forum! Who knows, maybe they just haven't made their decisions yet. I wish they would just tell us already though so we could a) celebrate, have our time of sadness, but then move on and move forward. I hope you get into your program of choice! Good luck to all!
  6. I, too, applied to just one school after being rejected from my choice school the last application round (still no word on this year's too). I don't think dreams really mean much when it comes to these things - a few weeks before they sent the rejection last year, I had a dream about being accepted! Anxiety and wishful thinking :-/
  7. The consensus seems to be that waiting a year or two to strengthen your application is the best thing to do. Just work on your experience/research over the next 6-18 months and try, try again!
  8. Hi all, I've been following the forums for a while but decided to finally comment because just reading alone was making me more anxious! If we haven't heard anything from the grad program at this point, is it safe to assume we've been waitlisted (officially or unofficially)? I had contacted the coordinator/point of contact for applications nearly a month ago and got a really vague answer about when decisions would hopefully (hopefully!) be made. I really hoped to start a new career path with this PhD, but I guess the chances of that are really low at this point
