  1. No word from Skohegan here either. For 2009, I was rejected at Millay and accepted to Vermont Studio Center with funding. Plus, Skohegan apparently hates painters anyway... I know someone who applied five times and never made it.
  2. Parsons MFA Fine Arts - No word... Does nyone have any info. Do the departments interview at separate times? I saw someone had a photo interview. :?:

  4. About the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts MFA program. I completed the Academy's undergrad (certificate) program a couple years ago and know a lot about the school and faculty...this year I'm determined to move away for grad school so I did not apply. I'd say this is a solid, up and coming program. Going in, you should know that it doesn't have the reputation that other schools have because it is still getting its footing. You'd have to put your faith in it as far as notoriety. Many faculty members are coming in from NY others are some of the more relevant undergrad faculty... The facilities are newly updated (they just moved)--- you'd get a great studio downtown Philly/access to an awesome print shop/sculpture spaces (remember no photography and very limited digital/computer labs). You should know there is a huge huge gap in purpose and practice between the Cert and MFA program. The Romantic/Traditional aroma of the place is really coming from the certificate program... The MFA's read more, are thinking about expanding their work conceptually, and everyone gets great exhibition space for their end-of-year shows etc. There is a social divide between the two programs which is unfortunate I think. The Academy of course is the nations oldest art school and houses an impressive collection of American art in the Museum which is quite beautiful... Travel to see it I'd say HMMM, shoot me a message/mail for other questions.
  5. I applied to Columbia Univ and have not heard anything. Looks like last year they sent out rejections one week into March. crossing fingers....
  6. A suggestion to apply into a lower program would feel insulting, I'm sorry that happened to some of you. As I understand it, Postbac programs are for students who either did not attend an art school as an undergrad or were not art majors in their university or colleges. I think it is bad form and rude on the school's part to suggest Postbac for anyone who has an art undergrad degree not to mention that they start over with a BFA program - they're just thinking about $$. If one were to actually do one it would establish connections at a school, that theoretically, would give you an easier time getting in there as an MFA the following year.
  7. Had SF interview, all went well - it was brief! Thanks for the encouragement stomachcramps... now if I could just hear something/anything from other places.
  8. Yeah, I'm pretty freaked out. I have one coming for SF and I keep asking myself questions I think they would ask and I turn into a blubbering idiot. I have some friends who have been through them... Typical questions thay say... What motivates your work? Why would you like to attend----apparently you should not say you want the studio space in whatever metropolitan area you are trying for. What is your works place in Contemporary Art? What did this _____ mean in your statement?, etc. One on one is a lot less scary than in person with your work around a ravenous comittee I would think. That's why phone interviews are my friend. Must charge cell phone!!!!!!
  9. Actually, although probably not as percise. - there are listed MFA acceptance numbers on Petersons: Try: http://www.petersons.com/graduate_home.asp?path=gr.home Do a "Quick School Search" then find, school of arts or "studio art", etc. Then click students/outcomes. Some of the numbers have given me a better since of what is a long shot and what is not... Hope it helps. Good luck to all.
  10. I'm so with you two. I check here all the time although it is a bit early to hear. I've applied to 5 very selective programs for painting/studio art and put so much into my applications. It's scary to think that I still may not be part of the 2 to 6 % of lucky artists accepted I guess the first step is to be contacted for an interview... I think San Francisco does them in a couple weeks.. Columbia and others are later.. GOOD LUCK!!!!!
