  1. Ah, okay. Yeah, I applied to all PhD programs. I think I applied to 3 programs who interview. Although, I only found this out by looking at the results search for previous years. Their websites don't seem to specify whether or not they interview, so it was somewhat of a surprise.
  2. When did these professors contact you? I had one contact me after reaching out to him a few months ago, but I wasn't aware that I would be hearing from any professors during decision time. Is this typical for the I/O field?
  3. It depends on the school, but I had the same exact thing happen to me. She missed two deadlines (i.e. 5 applications) and emailed me after she got back from break to say that she was rapidly trying to upload letters. If you can, I would just type up a quick template and ask someone else to do it. However, this isn't always possible, so I would just contact the schools and let them know what's happening. Since application season overlaps with the holiday season, most schools are understanding. I was even told by one school that my application was considered complete, even though that last letter was still missing.
  4. It's even worse when no one in your extended family knows about your subfield or discipline of psychology. They all assume I'm going to be seeing patients (I'm applying to I-O programs) and it drives me up the wall.
  5. Yep. We're busy biting our nails over a recommender not submitting their letters.
  6. For those of you who have dealt, or are currently dealing, with slow recommenders, did you email the school beforehand to let them know that one letter might be late? I have a professor who is sick with bronchitis, so she'll likely be late on sending these letters. My first applications are due on December 15th, with the rest after the break in January. I hope she doesn't submit them too late, but I don't know how late is too late. Any insight?
  7. My recommenders had trouble keeping track of letters for 7 schools, so I can't imagine what it's like helping them keep track of letters for 10 or 15 schools.
  8. Not to mention, recommenders have trouble keeping track of where they've sent/uploaded the letter when you're applying to THAT many schools.
  9. Sorry, I don't have an answer, but I'm also wondering about this because I know there are some researchers at the University of Bergen I would love to work with. However, I'm having the same issues as you (i.e. no info on language of instruction, financial resources), which is making me a bit frustrated and less likely to apply to these programs. Any advice out there?
  10. If a professor contacts you and says that he/she is accepting new kids and then goes through their current research projects/interests, is it acceptable or appropriate to ask them about relevant articles that might relate to ongoing projects we might be interested in learning more about? I don't want to come off as asking for too much...
  11. Ah, okay. That definitely makes me feel better . I actually have no problem leaving my state. I like mixing things up, so a new place sounds really exciting. Could you PM me about your current location and what you do? That would be great! Thanks!
  12. Hello, I'll be graduating this summer from Georgia Tech with a B.S. in Psychology, and I'm definitely planning on heading to graduate school, but I'd rather take a break before I start applying. I was hoping to find a full-time RA or lab manager position to get more general research experience and give myself time to figure out which program I want to go into. However, it seems that most job postings are geared towards those who are dead set on continuing research in the same area as the lab in which the RA works. Does my somewhat indecisiveness on which graduate program I want to eventually enter alter my chances of getting one of these positions? Just as a final note, I'm leaning more towards an I/O program, but it doesn't seem like there are many full-time RA or lab manager positions offered in this field. However, if anybody knows of any listerservs I could join that post such positions, that would be awesome!
