Geoscience - Hydrology. 2nd-year PhD student, first time applying VG/G, E/E, E/E. Not awarded, nor HM.

I have a friend who had ~10 publications as an undergrad, but all but 2 of them were with one of his parents (a scientist in the same field) as a coauthor. He still won a prestigious grad fellowship.
-
Until the fellowships are actually announced, I can comfort myself with the knowledge that I'm the only one on this forum who applied under Geosciences or under the ERDC BAA, so maybe whoever is evaluating my application is just very late compared to the other subjects/BAAs. (almost certainly wishful thinking, but whatever...)

Mine still says it was updated 12/06/19. My GRE quant and verbal were also above 90th %ile, my undergrad GPA was 3.7, and my first-year PhD GPA was 4.0. So I'd be a bit surprised if the date really means I didn't make it past the GPA/GRE screening. Also, I accidentally submitted the application with an unofficial copy of my grad transcript (without the university seal on it). I called SysPlus in early December letting them know that I could provide them a copy of the official transcript, and they said they'd contact me if they needed it. It would be very frustrating if they had just thrown out my application right away due to the transcript issue, instead of getting back to me about it. But based on the way the NDSEG program has been administered in the past by other contractors, oversights on the contractor's part unfortunately seem possible.

I'm in Geosciences, applying under the Army Corps of Engineers BAA. My application last updated 12/06/20.

I'm glad it really is the beginning of April and not delayed! Also I'm worried that, as a 2nd year grad student, I'll get dinged for only having a publication in review at the time of my application (it was published in February). I wonder if the publication expectations differ by field.
-
An alternative hypothesis would be that there is a Boolean value initially set to 1, meaning the applicant is "in the running," and it changes to 0 whenever the applicant is eliminated. But I agree that trying to interpret the dates is not very productive, however tempting it is to grasp at the little information we have.

Mine says last update 12/6, which was when I submitted it.

Civil & Environmental Engineering - Fall 2018 Applicants

I've been accepted to an MS at Wisconsin-Madison and a PhD at UCLA, both with a focus on water resources. No word on funding yet, but when I visited Wisconsin last week the professor said they would notify me about funding in a few weeks. My background is in Earth Sciences and I also applied to several grad programs in that field.- 209 replies

2018 Applicant Profiles and Admissions Results

Received rejection from U Washington Atmospheric Sci as well as post-interview acceptance to Stanford ESS this week. Also, informal rejection from Columbia EES/LDEO after reaching out to POI. He said he will not be taking new students this year because the department can only accept a limited total number of students each year and they decided to let younger faculty who are growing their labs have priority in recruiting students. I'm happy to have 5 programs to choose from! -

I've now gotten either interviews or acceptances at 5 out of the 7 programs I applied to, and will be visiting some of them in the next few weeks. As to the other two - Washington Atmospheric Sciences and Columbia EES - I was getting impatient so I contacted the departments. Both of them said that while they have issued some acceptances already, they are not done making their admissions decisions. -

Hey alabama23, I don't know anything about waitlists but I do have a question for you. Do have any knowledge of when Columbia Earth and Environmental Sciences will start to release admissions decisions this year? From previous years on the results survey it has been throughout February, but I'm wondering if you have more specific info since you go there. -

In the past week I've been invited to interview at Stanford Earth System Science (interview on February 20) and Wisconsin-Madison Civil/Environmental Engineering (interview date TBD). Both invitations were by email from POIs whom I was already in contact with. I also was emailed by an Ohio State Earth Sciences/Geodetic Science professor that they were nominating me for a fellowship, but I haven't receive an actual admission notification from them. -

Just submitted my seventh and last application! It was to Columbia, which I added to my list late. Hopefully I'll start hearing back from programs in about a month! Good luck to everyone! -
