Does anyone know how important pre-application visits and meetings are? I really went all out to develop a relationship with the DGS and several professors there, and my three recommenders went to Graduate School with the DGS. My application is solid, but I don't know if this will hold any sway. Any opinions??

They put me 5th on the waitlist... based on that information it's not looking too hot. Does anyone know about Princeton?

i applied to brown as well, i'm hoping that the lack of contact isn't a bad sign... i wish i could call them!! does anyone know anything about nyu's program i.e. how many people they usually take? i was waitlisted and would very much like to know my shot at admission.

Is it a nicer form of rejection or that they want you, but not as much as the other people in front of you?

I heard fifth on the waitlist from NYU, but don't quite know exactly what that means... Does anyone else know how wait-lists are qualified? In undergrad, I remember, a waitlist was sort of a nicer way of rejecting you. Here, however, especially given that the woman put my exact place, I'm hoping it means a little better... I'm also waiting from Columbia, Princeton, Fordham, Brown, Bryn Mawr, Boston U. Good to know Princeton is a no go. My interests are Greek Tragedy and Poetry of the Augustan Age.
