  1. Hi gradcafe friends, I'm a first-year Marketing Ph.D. student at BU, and we are recruiting new Ph.D. students this year. My department recommended that we share information about our program in places on the internet we used to check when applying, so... here we are I just went through the application madness last year (I applied to both psychology and marketing programs),and I would be happy to share my experiences and answer the questions I can, both about BU and the general process last year. Deadline is Jan 11. This is a general overview: www.bu.edu/questrom/files/2015/11/Questrom_Factsheets_Marketing_Final.pdfBest of luck to everyone!
  2. I ended up choosing a marketing (not psychology, but actually closer than you'd think) Ph.D. program at Boston U! Interesting how life works.
  3. I'm looking at Allston / Brighton / Fenway (maybe Brookline, too). My ideal is a studio relatively close to the T. I'm planning to move in July, so it's good to know I'm avoiding the massive moving day on Sept 1.
  4. Hi, BU friends! I'll be a marketing Ph.D. student at the business school! Now we have theology, fine arts, and marketing!
  5. Carlson School of Business has Kathleen Vohs, and I think she is an amazing researcher... so I'd pick that school I don't know your research interests, but that's how I'd make my choice!
  6. If it was me, I would bring it up in a funny / self-deprecating way.
  7. Angua, First of all, thank you for your insights! Secondly, here's a question that may be useful to applicants in my position. What are your thoughts on the job prospects of people who come out of this process with a marketing Ph.D. for marketing professor jobs versus those who come out with a psychology Ph.D. for psychology professor jobs? My psychology friends recommend staying under the psychology degree name (they say psych is more flexible as a degree, meaning I can apply for marketing jobs with a psych degree), and my marketing friends recommend the marketing name (they say the marketing research field is suffering less than psych in terms of jobs and it's easier to get a marketing position with a marketing degree). Is it basically just better to do a joint program if interests overlap?
  8. Hi there! Thank you for reaching out! Did you find it difficult to explain, when asked about the programs you're applying to, that your interests overlap enough to fit both? Or have you found it common that people apply to both psych and business programs?
  9. Yes, I am sadly crossing USC off my list. Well, here's a high-five!
  10. Hi, internet! I'm an applicant to both marketing and social psychology Ph.D. programs. I haven't heard much at all about marketing interview invites yet, so I wanted to reach out. Let's update each other about we hear in the upcoming month or so!
  11. Thank you very much, and congratulations on your accomplishments so far! I'm in the social concentration, so it's a bit of a relief
  12. Also, I see that someone posted an interview for U Penn. Would you mind PMing me your POI or general area of interest?
