In even more psychotic endeavors, here are the Germany notification times for the years prior: 2013 - 2014: 2:45 PM some full grant acceptances came through, then at 5:09 someone posted they were an alternate.

Um, that is an AWFUL STORY! Wow!!! unbelievable that they would put someone in that kind of position who is supposed to be an ambassador for the program... ugh! I had a horrible FPA last year but this year I did it at large, thank goodness.

I understand It can come in waves, too. I got rejected from DAAD and Fulbright last year, and weeks later, I got a rejection from this tiny little artist residency that I didn't even care much about, and I LOST IT. Just felt miserable and was sobbing. Fortunately I have a very respectable backup this year so I don't think I'll have a breakdown (lol) but I will be sad if I don't get it.

LOL I'm sorry I am stuck at work with very little to do, otherwise I'd go for a walk/jog/whatever to get away from this nonsense!

Blindsided how so? not expecting it to come in the mail? Or because of the result? I'm honestly trying to just expect a "no" because I just know it's so ridiculously competitive. But I still am having anxiety about it :/

Using a nice ~*scholarly analysis*~ of notifications: 2013-2014: March 27th, a Wednesday 2012-2013: March 13th, a Tuesday 2011-2012: March 15th, a Tuesday 2010-2011: March 16th, a Tuesday Then, further back than that, things were released in April so that totally screws up the data. I STRONGLY believe we will hear this week, but no idea if it will be today. Also, according to the notification dates from other countries this year, there has been zero indiciation that the budget issues/delay in notification about if we were finalists or not has had any effect (in fact, some countries seemed to notify earlier than usual this year.)

Just checked, Germany announcements went out at 2:30 on this Tuesday of the month last year. I am in full psycho mode right now, please excuse me.

They send them from the German office? i thought it went American office --> German office --> back to American office for final approval. this is stressing me so much because I have a lot of pressure to make a decision about my PhD funding *weeps* I just need to knowwww!!!

Haha no worries. I just looked at the DAAD portal-- I have never used the portal for my applications and had to just register anew, so I'm guessing no, my info is not up there!

lol that's actually really interesting, because my proposal last year was like "I want to sing German song and touch myself because it's just so amazing!" and this year it's like "LET'S EXPLORE THE DARK DEPTHS OF OPERA THAT NAZIS STAMPED OUT AND BRING IT BACK TO THE WORLD!!!!!!" and this year the interest in those topics (DAAD and Fulbright) has reversed. sigh sigh sigh. Here's hoping, I guess I shouldn't panic until I hear from the Fulbright.

Yes, masters study. Last year they also sent via mail, so I think it's via mail? Apparently someone else also got the same harsh letter I got. Maybe something got lost in translation lol

Which do you think is more competitive? Last year, I didn't make it to the Fulbright finals but got a very high DAAD "score" (though didn't win.) This year, got a miserable DAAD score but am in the Fulbright finals!

what do we think, Germany today? Past few years it has been this week on Tuesday, previous to that it was much earlier.

These rejections weren't for the summer language course, but for the year-long scholarship. Just so you know

I know It's not even the rejection-- heck anything can happen with these things-- it's mostly the way they had to word it >.<

Thank you for your kind words I have a full scholarship for my PhD waiting for me, so I imagine I'll fuel this into a dissertation topic if nothing happens with the Fulbright. Sigh.
