I am SO sorry to hear this! Your idea sounded amazing!! There is always next year and if you want to keep in touch with me I would be more than happy to try to be a resource. But message me - I am a secret ninja for a reason...

I was non-ETA, Full Research and was recommended. My country is Indonesia if that helps.

"Subject: Your Fulbright Application I am pleased to inform you that the National Screening Committee of the Institute of International Education (IIE) has recommended you for a grant under the Fulbright U.S. Student Program for the academic year 2014-15. Your application has been forwarded to the supervising agency abroad for final review. In addition, your application will be forwarded to the program sponsor, the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United States Department of State, for transmittal to the presidentially-appointed J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FFSB). The FFSB makes final decisions on Fulbright awards." Thank god... I really needed some good news. Even if I don't make it as a finalist, this looks great on my CV and I can be a mentor for future Fulbright applicants. I am SO sorry for all of you who did not make it through this round. If you want to apply again next year, feel free to message me for advice. I mentor undergraduates on applications like this all the time. Hopefully I can be of some help.

If I wasn't teaching in the morning....

Ugh - agreed. Thankfully, I am sitting on my couch trying to finish up another grant proposal before the *ding*
-
I am still undecided. Although - when it comes to my work load - I actually think tonight would be best. It'll give me the night and tomorrow to wallow before sucking it up and trudging on.
-
Is anyone else undecided about when to open the email?

Thank you. The love is appreciated.

We live parallel lives. If it is good news I will have a glass of wine and read over my lecture for my 9am class on Wed one last time. If it is bad news I will have 2 glasses of wine and be asleep by 9pm.

My entire dissertation depends on me going :-( I have about 10 grants submitted so far and at least 6 others to write in the next 3 months. Someone has GOT to give me enough money. (I need a lot...)

I understand your sentiments. But for me, even if I am awarded I still need extra money for lab fees and other expenses. So my waiting game continues through January regardless. It makes the continued process to determine finalist vs. alternate not *as* painful.

Just look on the Fulbright stats page. You will see what I mean by "flipped" and no - they do not have stats up yet for this year.

Don't everyone freak out too much about this. In 2011-2012 year there were 5450 Full Research applicants and 3875 ETAs. In 2013-2014 these numbers were flipped and there were more ETAs than Full Research, but still about 9500 applicants in total. So while it is higher for sure, not by as much as we are all worried about. I am very curious about the breakdown for this year. Historically, more ETAs apply every year and less Full Research.

Thanks for putting up with us and assuaging our concerns. Hopefully your delayed survey response won't be a problem and perhaps Mexbound will still get good news on Tuesday.

I don't think that it has historically.

It seems strange that only one person -out of all the stalkers on this forum- got an email.
-
What does it mean to NOT get an email from your FPA?
-
Well someone from Brooklyn just searched for me on Google and found my Academia.edu profile... Every little thing makes me wonder.

The funny thing about time.. it just keeps on truckin...

Thank you so much for posting this. Seriously. I can now focus on finalizing my lectures for next week and stop jumping at every "ding".

Actually.. I think it's gmail... all my gmail accounts are dead right now. (including my gmail powered school email)

Thanks Yes, my species is endemic to Indonesia. Funny story - I actually worked with chimpanzees for years and was a total ape girl. My Master's should have focused on gorillas, but a huge problem occurred at the very start of my project and I had to switch species. I fell in love with the gregarious monkey I switched to and decided that my PhD would focus on them as well. Your project sounds really fascinating. Indonesia has been subject to rule by so many outside regions, their entire culture and language is a hodgepodge. I actually stayed in an old Dutch mansion in Bogor, Jawa while I was getting some permits on my last trip. Supposedly it was haunted - but I never saw a ghost. Out of curiosity, how did you decide on yours? I hope we both get to go as well!

I think it is for people who have their PhD, not PhD candidates. Perhaps one of the Scholar program? Note the 5 months detail in the post.

I am a primatologist and will be exploring the effects of anthropogenic influence (tourism and range restriction) over multiple behavioral and physiological levels on a critically endangered species in order to make recommendations for their management and improve their overall conservation. I already made two very short preliminary trips there to meet my collaborators in person and ensure that my idea was feasible. This way I can hit the ground running once I go back. How about you?
