  1. I did receive funding (I believe it is GTF) but haven't gotten any contracts or specifics regarding the package yet in paper format. I know we are supposed to be getting information regarding registration at the end of next week so hopefully there will be more to come!
  2. Obviousbicycle - Whereabouts are you from??
  3. I would most definitely pass out if Judith Butler called me XD Good luck in making your decision!! It is tough when there are so many great features and even some low points to consider
  4. That sounds awesome!! Best of luck to you during your phone call - how cool is that?? If only I could get Judith Butler to schedule a phone date with me...hmmm...XD
  5. That sounds great! I love hearing good things about the location - I've more recently fallen in love with my hometown so it is tough to think about leaving. I am also a big fan of Victorian lit, but I am going into the program with a structural emphasis on Film and Media Studies and a theoretical focus on 21st Century Contemporary. Which program is the other top contender on your list?
  6. I have to admit for what its worth that I have followed this site for some time but have done very little in terms of posting. I'm not entirely sure what voting up or down is or how to reply directly to a person's post so bear with me while I try to work it out! haha
  7. That is great - although I am a little jealous that you are coming from New York (I love Manhattan + Brooklyn)! I would say that petrified is a pretty accurate description of how I felt when I first received my offer, but I am feeling a lot more excited and confident about the decision now. Are you coming from one of the urban areas of New York or more upstate? It'll be great to (sort of) know somebody from the east coast once I get over there.
  8. That is great to hear! It is tough when it comes down to decisions amongst great offers/institutions. I was waitlist at Buffalo which was originally one of my top choice programs, but I am really excited about Oregon and the offer they made so it is looking like that could just be it! Let me know how your journey goes and if you decide to attend - what specific field are you going into?
  9. Hi there! I am actually really surprised by how quiet the threads have seemed lately too... Congrats on your admittance! I read that it was your dream program too - that's awesome! I am a New England girl born and bred so this is quite the move for me, but I have heard great things about Eugene and have a few friends who live/have lived on the West Coast. Whereabouts in Wisconsin are you from? I have always wanted to visit Madison and Milwaukee. No set plans on housing yet, I expect that I will want to pick up a studio apartment for my first year to get acclimated. I tend to be really picky about how I live and who I live with. The DGS has been really helpful connecting me with community resources and students in the program so hopefully that helps. How about yourself?
  10. There is a posting out for UO already but it doesn't seem like anyone has really been active on it during this application season so I figured I would start a brand new thread for 2014... Is there anybody out there planning on attending UO in the fall? It is my top choice so far and I have heard a lot of really great things about Eugene and the university in general, but I will be moving from the east coast so I am eager to connect with peers before I get out there! If I accept the offer made to me I will be enrolling in a PhD program in the English department this fall.
  11. I will most likely be attending UO in the fall! I am waiting to hear back from one other program but as of right now UO is my top choice. I am moving from the east coast (yikes! scary!) so I'd love to chat with others who will be attending in the fall. I am enrolling in a PhD program in their English Dept.
  12. It definitely does help! I am definitely in the same boat as you - not sure what to expect whether it be a delayed rejection, a waitlist offer, or a deferment to the masters program. Either way it is driving me crazy!
  13. Hi all! I have been stalking these chat forums, my email, and my application page for weeks now to catch word of what is going on with SUNY Buffalo. I know that there have been a lot of notifications of admittance already posted, but my application just switched to "Initial Review in Progress" last week. Is anybody else still waiting for a response regarding their English PhD program? The suspense is killing me!
  14. I have also grown up in RI my entirely life and can endorse everything that was just stated here. I would add that the West Side of Providence is also an up and coming area in the college community and has beautiful, historical buildings available for rent, this would be the Armory district or Broadway/Westminster. Personally I have always lived on the North Side of Providence which can be tricky because if you cross the wrong street you in practically in a new neighborhood. My experience on the North end between Branch and Mineral Spring has always been quiet though. This area would also be good for public transportation purposes seeing as it is so close to several major highways and main roads (although you really can't go wrong wherever you go if you are looking for a bus stop). The east side (Brown/RISD) area is my favorite spot to hang out in but I could never afford to live there as a student - especially when everything is so close together and you can live five minutes down the road for $600 less per month. Personally I don't frequent the Kingstown area much but if you are looking for someplace to live/commute where there is some activity available on I would stick with Providence,
