  1. That makes sense, thanks for looking out!
  2. Here is to hoping the rest of the results will be posted tomorrow
  3. Yep, still waiting. Now I'm worried that my application didn't get reviewed...
  4. anyone know if last years was by subject area too?
  5. At this point, I would have to agree. Getting a response after paying 100+ dollars would be more comforting then never getting one period.
  6. april 15th is the deadline. Just tell them you are still thinking about the decision until then. I would suggest against accepting late (if it comes down to it).
  7. if it's not likely, why don't you just say you're not interested anymore?
  8. Depending on how many slots they expect to fill.. that's a good sign if they have 12 openings and took 12 people... a position is bound to open up if it's 6 openings assuming not all 12 people will accept... chances are less. Stay pos!
  9. When programs mean they need a notification by April 15th, does that mean do they need the "snail mail notification" or will emailing the advisor be okay? I'm still waiting on one more school (potential deal breaker) and that is what's prolonging the process.
  10. UIUC is no city and that's probably it's biggest weakness, but as a PhD candidate in Material Science, you also have to consider how much time you'll have for a social life in general. This is not to go with the cliche that all graduate students do is study, but I still think it is pretty much one of the main defining differences between the two. I've been at UIUC for 4 yrs and it definitely has it's charm; when I go crazy for the city, I'll drive up to Chicago now and then to breath a little. It's not a place I could see myself settling down in, but I've already considered myself just a temp visitor, hehe...ask yourself what your priorities are (under the conditions that both are already HIGH priority): social life > academic opportunities OR academic opportunities > social life and see where Minnnesota and UIUC fits. If you have any questions with regards to champaign life, etc. I would be more than willing to answer them
  11. Actually, finding a place in evanston to live is pretty easy and rent for as low as 500 if you try hard enough. You'll be fine
  12. If you have the option to get a phd, get it. I would never chose the option that has the potential to limit future opportunities; you never know if your interests will change.
  13. no it's good to show interest in more than one lab. They want to know that if the primary professor you work with dies, leaves the university, etc. you still have a future at the institution. Also, professors are sometimes impressed if you are able to associate their interests with other professors in the department... sort of that interdisciplinary sexiness without going outside the division... hehe. alrighty. Goooooooood luck
  14. There's also a huge possibility you could be waitlisted. I recently called an institution (for social psych) inquiring about my admissions status and found that out
  15. Actually, In social psychology I think so... Applicants have been contacted since January for interviews, etc. If we were to get contacted now, it's probably some sort of second wave or "waitlist" consultation. I think social psychology is being weird. I always thought interviews were the norm for clinical and neuroscience, but when I started hearing about interview invites it was kind of a shock. I think it was something recently implemented, since I recently met a recent Harvard graduate who was surprised about the whole interview aspect. She just got a direct acceptance. Things will work out!
