  1. Is it to ask the department or the graduate school for such questions, in general?
  2. Generally speaking, in online application, is it okay to upload the report from ETS website, instead of paying ETS to send GRE score to graduate schools and departments? Can l only pay ETS to send GRE score to a school, if I am admitted into it? What bad things will happen? By the way, I am applying to statistics PhD programs.
  3. My GRE was taken more than 5 years ago. I plan to take computer-based GRE again on Nov 30th in U.S., but there are some schools with application deadlines on Dec 2 and Dec 1 (for example, statistics departments and engineering and science schools of U of Wisconsin Madison, Rutgers, Harvard ). I was wondering if schools in general might be willing to accept official GRE scores sent from ETS about two weeks later than their deadlines? I heard that I might know my scores of Verbal and Quantitative sections right after I finished taking computer-based GRE, so will self reporting the scores of these two sections on online application systems be sufficient for meeting the deadlines?
  4. thanks! can you tell me how you find the employment historical data of a program in Linkedin? I tried to search "brown computer science master", not anything useful.
  5. Hi Guys, I got admited into Cornell CS MEng for Spring. I haven't heard of Brown CS MS yet, and there is a deadline for response to Cornell near the end of Nov. Would anyone compare the two programs? If admitted into both, which one will be a better choice in what aspects? Some things I am considering about are: 1. academic life: such as the curriculum plan for preparing students' careers in either industry or academia; The study stress; the availability of help from department; the easiness to get high grades. The Cornell CS MEng program is generall a two semester program, and can be extended to three semesters. The Brown CS MS program is generally a three semester program, and range between two and four semesters. 2. The size of the program: I prefer a small one. I am not sure about the historical data of how many students enrolled into the two programs each year/season. 3. The history and prospect of employment of graduated students. 4. The cost: I guess the tuition will roughly equal? For Cornell, it would be about $22,565 per semester (two or three semesters). For Brown, the total tuition for $22,304 per semester (two to four semesters), and unlike Cornell, Brown will charge tuition according to the course credits instead of semesters. I am not sure whether there are differences in the other costs (housing, dining, transportation, etc) for living in these two places Thanks for your inputs! P.S.: I studied ECE and applied math in my undergraduate and graduate schools. I am not a CS student, though I have taken some computer courses offered from non-CS departments. My programming skills are not great yet.
  6. If one applies to a graduate school and gets declined, is it considered okay to ask for the opinions of admission staff or committee, about their thoughts on his application package (gpa, experience, personal statement, how supportive the recommenders wrote their letters, etc), for better adjusting his plan of applying to other schools and career? Thanks!
  7. Since you are in UMBC, will you also apply to UMBC? Is UMBC better than some on your list, especially those you feel safe?
  8. What is the placement of JHU CS master like? I was wondering... Thanks!
  9. because when the spring result is finalized, the result of fall hasn't come out yet. i don't want to waste the spring admission if there is any, and who knows i may not have fall admission. if the fall result is better than the spring one, can i switch to the fall program? by the way, the spring programs that i will apply to will likely be master programs without financial aid, and the fall ones may or may not have financial aid.
  10. I am thinking about applying to different graduate programs (maybe in the same or different universities) for admission in spring and in fall next year. If I am accepted into some spring program, start in that program, and later some other fall program accept me, can I leave the spring program and start in the fall program? Thanks!
  11. I was wondering what are some biostatistics master programs with spring admissions? Thanks!
  12. What are some good CS master programs with 2014 Spring admission? Thanks!
