  1. No news abt funding yet. I already accept the admission offer and apply for assistantships through the online cse web. The admission coordinator told me that the committee going to provide funding offers late of the summer. I contacted a current doctoral student at the department, seems to me that they normally offer TA's for all the admitted students. Anyways, I'm planning to contact individual faculty and see whether they have RA's available for the Fall 2010. Hope they are not already given offers to other students....... What abt you? Any news on funding? Did you contact faculty for RA's?
  2. I am writing to inform you of my decision to decline admission to University........pay back time...evil

  3. I'm just wondering about the TAMU CS PhD funding for admitted students, whether a support is guaranteed or they admit students without finding like Purdue CS PhD admits this year????? I got my acceptance email this April 26th, and no word about finding though. The email state that I need to accept the offer before May 15th and then only I can apply for department fellowship, and assistantships. Also, they asked me to contact individual faculty for RA'ships. I really wanna attend TAMU and I'm desperate about funding. If any previous TAMU admits or someone with insights on this???? I saw several admits in the results page with TA and RA support. thanks.
  4. Another set of rejections on the results page. Anyone acceptance from UT Austin ECE by now? specially Biomedical and Computer tracks? My status says still reviewing.............
  5. I just saw someone posted UT Austin biomedical track admit on the results. Adcoms making acceptances this late?
  6. I'm waiting for UT Austin ECE (Biomedical, computer) tracks. Nothing yet. I saw several people posting rejections (via web site). Mine still says send to admission committee for review. What I heard is the latest may be 23rd of this month for all the acceptance/rejections. I can fairly assume that the rejection.
  7. Another wave of rejections on the result page!!! I guess UT Austin is having some rolling admission/rejection process. I'm curious when they are gonna send all the rejections. I feel its better if they can just accept whoever and then send all the rejections at once like how UT Austin CS and other top schools like stanford, MIT etc did. This waiting game is killing me, and all the hopes are gone by now.............UTSA, here I come.........
  8. March 23rd fast approaching. Anybody heard anything after March 6th? I saw few rejections on the results page on March 6th saying rejected via web. About 3-4 people including 1 MS. Not sure which track. This is the 3rd week, I'm so nervous, its going to be another rejection after a wave of rejections last few days......
  9. Am I in the wrong forum topic ??? You guys talking about BME dept correct? I'm interested on the Biomedical engineering track at ECE. sorry for the misunderstanding.....why shouldnt I applied to BME dept, how I missed this ????
  10. I saw two visits from UT Austin on my personal web. Not sure whether the committee or someone else (last friday). This going to be my last hope. I have to ended up at UTSA otherwise....... nobody knows how many intakes this year at UT Austin ECE?
  11. bmeppp, could you share a brief profile of yours including the GRE, GPA and publications. Did you talk with any professors at the ECE? What abt at the time of the grad day (I guess March 5-6). I saw one of software engineering track admit mentioned that he talked to a professor at the time of the grad day and got an RA offer recently for the admissions. Do you know how many new PhD intakes at the UT Austin ECE, specially biomedical track?
  12. Do you know how many new PhD intakes at the ECE this year? and for the Biomedical track? I heard CS sent out 90 acceptance and waiting for 30 seats to be filled. Do you mind sharing a brief profile of yours? I'm having some trouble with the GRE verbal which is just 350. I'm not sure whether this is enough to pass the initial weeding???? My profile. MS from local US University GPA 3.83 BS international GPA 3.70 2 IEEE journals in review 5 conference papers GRE: 350v, 760q, 3.5aw any ideas how crucial my verbal for the ECE admissions? I already contacted a professor at the Biomedical track and he wants to talk to me about my research but after the decision from the adcomm. But, I'm not sure how the adcomms look at my verbal compared to other stellar profiles............
  13. Whats going on? Nobody with admits from UT Austin ECE ? At least someone who got admits previous years for this program, when we can hear accepts and rejections???????
  14. Anyone got admits from CMU Ph.D. in Computer Science/Neural Basis of Cognition program? Is there a separate admits for this program or just whoever get admits to CS goes automatically into this? I saw somebody posted UT Austin CS done sending out PhD decisions for 90 lucky souls and waiting to fill 30 seats? Any TAMU or Rice PhD admits? are they done or still processing? UT, Rice and TAMU gonna be my last chance for a decent admits.......?
  15. Anyone with UT Austin ECE Biomedical or Computer Engineering tracks admits? Do you know when they send the acceptance/rejections? How many PhD offers this year from these tracks? Thanks
  16. I also applied to the MIT BCS, and got an email reply for the inquiry from the graduate admission coordinator, I feel like rejection from this,
  17. Any news on decisions from UC Berkeley Vision Science PhD program? I guess vision science decision process is different from other departments (there are number of departments at UC Berkeley inside the program itself, biology, CS etc...) Anyone with some admissions hints on this program from previous years? or is this fairly a new program? I saw about few MIT BCS invitations, anybody else good invitations from the BCS? Is this a good time to ask from MIT BCS admission coordinator whether they are done sending out invitations and now getting ready for the rejections
  18. I'm just wondering, how many people here got invitation from the MIT Brain and Cognitive Science (BCS) phd program? I guess above who applied to neurosceince program and got invitation from MIT BCS correct?
  19. I got my drivers License in 2007, and it is valid till 2014. Recently (2008 Nov) Texas changed their policy on non-immigrants, if you are in F-1 status then your I-94 issued for I-20 d/o which is for duration of stay. If this is the case your new drivers license expires after 1 year and you need to go to the local DPS office to renew it after showing your proof of status (I-20). I guess this is the case of Missouri too!!! My wife also on the same boat. They posted a red line in the drivers license saying temporary visitor. Luckily she got her state ID before this law............ jaya..
  20. Thanks everyone for the replies. Dijkastra, Yes I agreed with you that most important thing is the student-advisor relationship. I definitely in a process of getting some collaboration research with a professor at UT Austin. My current advisor is planning to attend several meetings with UT professors to discuss possible research collaboration, and he is gonna sell me as the best student from his lab for any collaboration. This going to be definitely a huge plus ,if I can start a research before the application deadlines. As katie pointed out, I know my strength is in the LOR, GPA, and Research. I'm getting ready for my GRE, hopefully end of Oct. This time I
  21. My advisor just started his career (I guess just 3years back!!). He is well known in his field (HCI), but not sure how well UT Austin people know about him. The other professor is from Physical Therapy and this probably a problem (We have a collaborative project on HCI). The other recommender from Berkeley Lab definitely a well known. All three are pretty much impressed on my research ability, especially my advisor is doing all he can to put me into UT Austin PhD program. I
  22. Hi all, I really appreciate if you can comment on my chances of getting into UT Austin CS PhD program. I like both CS, and Engineering programs at UT Austin. In addition I want to know my chances for the Stanford, MIT, and Cal Berkeley CS PhD programs. Graduate: Computer Science, MS (Thesis) GPA: 3.9 School: Texas State Undergraduate (Dual degree, from my home country): B.Sc. CS (with honors), GPA : 3.70, and IT (external degree) Research: 2 Journal papers (in progress), 3 IEEE conference papers, 1 refereed unpublished paper. (total 6 research publications, 2 technical reports, 3 Thesis publications). Probably, 1 more conference paper at the end of this year.(1/2 journal paper first author, 2/3 conference papers first author) Summer Research student internship at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab Two research grants from Sigma Xi grant in aid of research (for two previous research proposals) CS department research excellence award, academic excellence award, number of other graduate college scholarships. Reviewer for several international conferences Several Talks at college level and at Berkeley Lab Active Extra curriculum (Student Government, CS Society) GRE (this is my weak point): planning to retake soon, (sure of Q>750, verbal ??? may be around 400-500), In 2006 got only Q-750 and V-250 Recommendations: 2 professors from the college (my advisor and a research collaborator from another department) and 1 scientist (summer internship advisor) from Berkeley Lab. (This will be my biggest strength, sure of getting top letters) My wish list, 1. UT Austin (ambitious) 2. MIT, Stanford, Cal Berkeley (Dream) 3. Texas A&M (in case not UT Austin) 4. U of Houston (safe) 5. UT Dallas (safe) 6. UTSA (safe) Thanks in advance, Jay
