  1. Thank you very much for the information. Is 12 people for a visit day not too low? I thought UMich Aero was a much larger department.

some admitted people didn't go to visit. I think they accepted around 20. They also stated they were being more selective this year than in previous years. Last years acceptance rate was 13% from like 300 apps
  2. I also applied for PhD to Michigan Aerospace. I have received no notification so far. As you say, it smells like reject..

UMich PhD aero visit weekend was last week (about 12 people visited). Acceptance rate was less than 10% this year.

Statistically, about 2/3 people accept their offers, so I assume there may still be space available after people reject.

  3. So I accepted the Hertz fellowship a little while back. This fellowship only includes a stipend and no tuition (though my offers from schools will cover tuition). Is it possible to accept NSF just for the tuition part along with Hertz (I want to save my adviser some money :P)?

Admittedly, I haven't looked much into the fellowship stuff.

  4. .  1/3 of awards go to fourth year undergraduates, 1/3 go to first year graduate students, and 1/3 go to second year graduate students.

Is that right? I was under the impression that # of awards allocated for a student in a certain year (undergrad, 1st year grad, 2nd year grad) is proportional to the # of applications received for that group.

  5. I think they make their own profiles.

BTW, I realized today that Google's citations system is not quite reliable: Some papers are missing, others are doubled, some references are wrong... Maybe Scopus (even though it lacks some papers) is closer to reality when predicting the h-index.

Yeah I had a feeling they made their own profiles. Wouldn't surprise me there's stuff missing on those profiles.

    Good luck.

  6. For those going to Cornell's visit day, I'm curious to see what you guys think of Sibley. I've been told that the program has been slightly declining the past few years due to some of the renowned profs retiring/about to retire (e.g., Pope) and being replaced by new ones, who don't seem to be producing that much research output...
