Now that the April 15th deadline has passed, has anyone heard from their school of choice about finances, start date, health care, etc.? When do they start getting back to you? I tried emailing and calling once but no response either time. Though some people on the results page have been complaining about OSU's lack of communication anyway...

Does anyone have experience living in the Brewery District or German Village? I'm looking at an apartment complex there, as I really like the area, but it is a little bit farther from campus as other options. I'm trying to avoid the undergraduate area though. Are there many direct bus lines that go to the campus from that area?

Those of you who have gotten admissions offers and accepted... when did the school get back to you? I accepted an offer two weeks ago and it was confirmed on the website but haven't heard any further word from the school at all. Do they normally begin the admitted students correspondence later in the spring?

Thanks foodie - that was very helpful. Do you happen to know how long the FAFSA loans are available for, if you're offered them? For instance, if they offer you a loan at the start of your studies, but then a year later you find out there's an unfunded conference, can you still accept the loan?

It came down to a choice between Indiana University and Ohio State for me. I didn't get into some of my other top choice schools, but in a way I was glad because it made my decision easier, and IU and OSU were still two of my top choices. I ended up going with OSU, but it was a tougher decision than I thought. Very excited though! Now onto more paperwork and logistics....

I'm one of the people fortunate enough to be attending graduate school in the sciences, where programs seem more likely to be fully funded. The program I'm attending does fully fund its students for the first year through the program itself, and then fully funds its students through their advisors' labs once they pick a mentor. There is also a stipend, and financial assistance is not dependent on teaching. My question is (and it may be a very dumb one), but is there any merit to filling out the FAFSA for graduate school for this type of program? I qualified for federal aid in undergrad and am fairly sure I would qualify again, but not sure if I need to. I haven't yet received my financial package from my program either, though I know there are additional fellowships available for some students.

I ran into this same problem with my applications: my study abroad credits (as well as some college credits I took my senior year in high school) showed up as transfer credits on my undergrad transcript but I didn't have transcripts from the institutions themselves. When I explained this to the schools I was applying to, they basically said "alright then" and waived that requirement. If they aren't accepting that explanation, maybe you can have your undergraduate institution explain to the program how study abroad credits work; they might be more willing to accept an explanation from another institution.

Bump, as I am interested in the above question too. Does Bloomington ever feel small and isolated, or is there enough going on and it's connected to enough bigger cities that you don't feel trapped?

I've been curious about this too. I have heard some places send out acceptances in waves ,but does anyone know why? Other than if you were waitlisted, why would some people be accepted one week, and then others the week after, or the week after that?

They've had some interviews. That being said, I don't think anyone can expect to hear official decisions for several more weeks.

I've been struggling with this issue too. I can't attest to any of the schools in particular that you mentioned, but in my opinion location matters. I've heard some people say that you are going to be so busy in graduate school that location doesn't matter, and that fit is the most important thing. I agree that fit is the most important thing, but I think location is a close second. Despite how busy you are going to be, graduate school is not going to be your life 24/7, and it's important to be in a location that you feel comfortable in for the days you aren't in the lab or in classes. Especially if you're going to be there for 5+ years.

I also applied to Michigan and Michigan State. I haven't heard anything either, but I've also seen some people get admits/rejections, so I assume that means a waitlist? I'm considering contacting MSU to inquire. Michigan's website says that they will have made all of their final decisions "no later than March 1st", so I'm trying to wait until then.

Man, nothing but rejections on the results page when I search "neuroscience"... Has anyone heard from Ohio State's NGSP? I got an email 2 weeks ago saying they would make their decisions by the end of January, but nothing yet.

Ouch. At least the middle section was...sort of nice about it? Sorry though. EDIT: Based on the results page, looks like you're not the only one to get that and reasonably take offense to it.

Curiosity: what did it say? If you don't mind sharing. I've gotten one rejection so far and their stock letter was quite nice about it (it was hard to make our decision, we wish you well, etc. etc.)

I had that idea too! I like it, but I'm most likely at this point in time going to end up at Ohio State ... and all my LOR writers are Michiganders! Might not go over very well If you're out-of-state relative to your letter-writers, how are you sending them the thank yous? Package to their office address?

Indiana University (psychological and brain sciences): February 6-7

Just heard from Indiana University's Psychological and Brain Sciences program! Their interview dates are February 6-7. Time to take more suspicious time off of work!

Are they really? That's sad...I applied there but I haven't heard anything yet. Good to know places are doing multiple waves though!

There are some (but not many) neuroscience masters programs that have later application dates. I've considered that as a contingency plan if I'm not accepted anywhere. Northwestern University has a year-long masters program with an application deadline sometime in March. If I'm not accepted anywhere by late Feb, I may submit an app there.

Got an interview invitation to Ohio State's neuroscience graduate studies program! I'm over the moon. Their interview dates are January 8-10 or January 15-17. I took the later date because of work conflicts.
