struggling with being patient
powerlifterty16 replied to powerlifterty16's topic in Letters of Recommendation
Well I hope you are right that they are waiting for the prompt. Obviously the first teacher who sent me the letter had no idea about it.....I don't think im going to get into the program im applying for anyway though so it doesnt really matter lol. -

I honestlly dont know what stage. I emailed the professors, they responded asking for the transcripts/SOP, and then didnt reply after that. none said they were waiting for a prompt from the application, and one sent the letter right to me lol. What sucks is that there ae only 3 email prompts on the application website, so going that route ican only get 3. I emailed the professors again, including the one who sent me the eltter(told him to submit it via the prompt after isubmit my app) problem is, im not submitting my app until november, bc i need to retake gre. -

I feel so rushed. I had a bad test experience with the gre, and wrote a complaint to ets, and it says they can take 4-6 weeks to reply....I need to retake the test, and am trying to get a retest free of charge because of some issues, yet my deadline is december 15th! it also takes solong to get the scores from ets. -

No offense, but I think you wrre missing the point. I know 4 letters is a lot, but my point is that I dont have 4 letters now. Yes, I know there is a prompt to send the letters, but I obviouly need to email the teachers and find out if they are willing to write the letters and send them what they need too. I havent seen these professorsd for years. When I submit my application I was planning on telling the professor who sent me the letter to upload it through the prompt anyway. -

I messaged a lot of professors. I got 4 REPLIES, one sent me a letter, and 3 more told me they were going to write me letters and to send a SOP and my transcripts, but after I did that they never emailed me back saying when the letters will be ready. Some just said ''thanks for sending the stuff so fast''. Even though I only have 4 professors willing to write eltters, these professors are exactly what i need because i got good grades with them, and was in a few of their classes, and they are psych professors which is where im going. -

no i am doing it through email. -
It seems that some of the professors i asked to write letters flat out ignored my emails(which was a surprise). I did however get 4 professors to reply, with one sending me a letter the same day. The others told me they would write a letter, and then i sent them my SOP and transcripts, and they dont reply back....I dont know how long to give them, and if they take too long i dont know how to politely remind them.

yeah so screwd with a 156 verbal and 165 quant..i hate posts like these.

manhattan is a lot of reading, but a lot are also problems so not that much...about 100 or so pages of reading per book..the first 27 pages are a general introduction for the test that is the same in all 8 books bro.

same thing is ahppening here...took the test on the 5th..no scores.

need GRE advice please! I have one month to prepare for my last GRE
powerlifterty16 replied to yuki11's topic in GRE/GMAT/etc
sounds like a tough situation. There is only so much studying one can do before it doesn't pay off due to indiiduals' abilities. This point id just say to hire a private gre tutor...if that doesnt help maybe grad school isnt for you, or maybe go somewhere with no gre requirements? -

Well i would be happy with a 5. I dont really care about a 6. I wouldnt take the test over if my verbal/quant were fine, but i got a 5 or even a 4.5. So if i score worse on AW or verbal//quant, but better on one section, can i just send that section or do i have to send it all? -

those are impressive scores. What worries me is if i got a 6 on aw, and then i retook the test and scored lower can i just send the sections i scored better on? I checked ets and dont see an option for that. i sent my scores to princeton ha....and would have sent them to harvard had there been an option on the screen. i wasnt expecting that i could send my scores to 4 schools so just did those..and then two schools i had a shot at...one my undergrad, and another one that's ranked lower than undergrad but is a private school. i made sure to use gre words though....one word i used was insouciant -
yup you can...i was tempted to do that but didn't want to get in trouble..so i just pretended to read the instructions for a little longer than i should have

yeah i meant the actual test nott he practice test. data analysis questions are quite simple. I was lucky with my Aw essays too, one of the topics was one i could relate to..the other wasnt bad although im not sure if i truly understood the question...so i either got a really good score or i got a 0 for not writing on the issue ha. im surprised maggoosh didnt have an example for every ,math problem..they seem pretty on the ball. what score did u get? -

My specialty seems to be data analysis. I havent come across a data analysis question that seemed higher than 3rd grade level. -

im most likely not going to do a lot of practice problems though...but may consider doing another practice test. I felt pretty comfortable with the test format tbh. I finished everything on time, except the last math because the employee was really bothering me....so had to guess on 2 that iprob would have answered right. -

i actually ahve the kaplan 2013 book, but didnt like it. i also hav studied all 1000 words from magoosh, and am going to review them 5 days before the test to make sure im good with them. I agree that the instruction is the important part, i jsut get lazy when it comes to reading, but i have a decent amount of time. Im going to devote 2 days to each book...prob start studying monday. Ive already read the algebra book, and most of the geometry, but im going to reread them anyway...i dont have anything to lose. i just hope i gget a good essay topic. the essay sections went well when i took the test. I finished both early. The issue i have is i type fast and make a lot of typos so i need to be sure to finish up 5 mins early to correct them all. -
Studying V Instead Q as a History applicant.
powerlifterty16 replied to ToomuchLes's topic in GRE/GMAT/etc
interesting scenario. i dont know if i full believe him that a good quant wont help....all things equal between applicants, the quant could be the deciding factor...also a score in the 140s is quite below average(my score was 150 and only 41st percentile)....chances are if you blow the verbal away youll be ok imo...maybe just do 1-2 weeks of quant. -

i went to see my old counselor today, and he told me I should complain also. I sent the email to the advocacy team at ets so now it's in their hands. yeah the 5 pound book would be nice to have, but honestly, I need to take this test by the middle of november, and the thought of reading these 8 books alone is making me unnerved lol. So I know the verbal books from manhattan get bad reviews, but worst case is they wont help right? They cant hurt me right? -
having trouble getting replies
powerlifterty16 replied to powerlifterty16's topic in Letters of Recommendation
well i called the graduate school, and they said it was an old poilcicy. i didnt call that official department, but ill just take their word, they were fairly confident. i got another reply yesterday. It's funny, the professors I thought would all have my back didn't een reply(except 1), and then the professors I didnt even think of did have my back. If everything goes well, ill have 3 letters from 3 respected phd psychologyfaculty members. -

I got the whole manhattan series for 43 bucks through chegg, and I think right now im capable of 160 wthoutdistractions, so hopefully the verbal book can atleast ensure i get tthat if not 162....math id be happy with 156. I hope you dont think im being unfair by demanding a retest. If you do, all I can say to you is that I think you should have demanded one too. that kind of shit is not acceptable, and has caused me too much stress! -

That's true, there may be grad applicants in the mix too, but I'm stubborn, and im going to try for the phd. just bought all 8 manhattan books and im retaking the gre. Hopefully they leave me the f alone during my test lol.
