  1. Hello, I am a current part-time student in the MS&E program. I would say your GPA isn't a problem, since I got in with a lower GPA than yours. I would think that things like GPA and GRE scores are negative filters, and GPA above 3.5 should be good enough that your application is automatically filtered off without being reviewed by the ad com. Definitely retake your GRE though. If your GPA is below their average, I guess a GRE above their average will look better on your application. It's not a MBA, so I think diversity of the class is not a key criteria, though I do see a significant portion of the class being international students. Work experience is also a plus, since quite a good % of the class has some working experience despite it not being a MBA. If you manage to get your GRE scores to a nice level, you will need to focus to draft a great SOP and secure good letter of recommendations to stand a good chance of being accepted. Good luck!
  2. what do you want the MS to do for you? I guess in the marketing world, having solid projects in your portfolio/resume is much more important than a MS. Especially since you already have a MBA, i am not sure if a MSc has any knowledge value for you. Thus without more information, I can only hypothesize that the only value of doing the NYU MS is for the network/job placement in NYC?
  3. Not sure about columbia, but you will probably need to retake your GRE if you want a good chance for Stanford. See http://www.stanford.edu/dept/MSandE/cgi-bin/admissions/admitstats.php. While the GRE is not as critical as your LoRs and SoP, as a negative filter, a low quant GRE score can and will prevent the ad comm from ever reading your LoRs and SoP.
  4. Don't think there's any point for you to do a MiM without work experience if you want to get into consulting unless you need a strong brand name school on your resume. Just prepare for the case interview and apply as a business analyst. If you are good enough, they will sponsor you for a MBA.
  5. Seems like this is a pretty old post, but I will just add on to it. Applying to: MS in MS&E at Stanford through HCP Background/Stats: Undergrad uni: national university of singapore, mechanical engineering Undergrad gpa - equivalent of 3.5/4 Work experience: 5 years as an aerospace engineer in the military, 2 years as an aerospace engineer in an us defense prime contractor. GRE: V162/Q170 (havent got my official scores yet) Graduate certificate in MS&E at Stanford. GPA for 4 modules - 4.14/4 (2A+, 2A) Applying for early review round (8th Oct), would get admission results by Dec 13.
  6. Took the practice powerprep tests I & II 2 to 3 days before actual GRE (25 Sep 2013). Practice I: Verbal - 168, Quant - 167 Practice 2: Verbal - 166, Quant - 169 Actual GRE: Verbal - 162, Quant - 170 Felt that the verbal on actual GRE was abit harder, and the need to do 3 sections of verbal during the actual GRE didn't help. I would say that a couple of correct intelligent guesses during the practice test for the verbal section helped to push up the scores by abit. A digression for comparison - my GMAT scores were Verbal - 40, Quant - 50, overall 740, taken May 2012. I would say the results of both tests were pretty close.
