  1. I created a FB group. Planning on emailing Maureen soon after April 15th so that she can forward it to people who plan on attending, but for the meantime... https://www.facebook.com/groups/255322361306947/
  2. On the website it says the first week of March.
  3. One person posted they got in via email on march 1st....anyone else get info?
  4. Someone said they got accepted at Vandy March 1st via email.....but one person. I am confused and anxious.
  5. Aw, thanks guys for the encouraging words about BU. My mind keeps pondering why I was waitlisted.. My V and Q scores are technically a little low for the BU average, but. I wouldn't think that would be the reason.....but I guess I'll never know. I am happy with the places I have heard back from. 2/3 is good. I guess next week I will see. I think UNC Chapel Hill and Vandy said next week.
  6. ....I know I have said this before, but I am SO impatient. I CANNOT wait until next week because that's when the majority of programs seem to be giving people a heads up.
  7. Yeah I am anxious to hear back from UNC-Chapel Hill also. UGH the wait. I feel like it will be this week, but...I don't know. Last year they notified by phone call so now I keep my phone with my constantly and have it on my desk on silent in all classes just in case they call....
  8. Ugh even though I already got into some schools I am so anxious to hear back from others. It is all I can think about. I just did my BU interview yesterday over Skype and it seemed to go well but it was really short...I am guessing they had a lot of people to get through. Every day is so slow. I just want March to start!!!!
  9. I think the general trend is that if your scores are at or above the 50th percentile, they do not matter too much unless you are applying to some really amazing high ranked schools, and even then I am not so sure. I know people who got around 149 in V and Q and now are happy at UCF and Valdosta State.
  10. Autismadvocate, you will be absolutely fine. You have a lot of good credentials. I would be shocked if you didnt get into your Florida schools. Also that website you mentioned really seems like a stand-out accomplishment--they will remember you. I have worked with a lot of people with disabilities. I was a caretaker of a girl with autism for a while and then I helped out a blind woman with her cleaning and groceries and stuff. I also have a disability myself, and I applied for a scholarship for people with disabilities and got it. I feel like my package as a whole is pretty strong...except for my scores. I mean, my scores are like meeeeh (except for writing, BAM), but I was able to get into U Wisconsin-Madison. Super shocked. So if you have one "lower" thing on your application, don't lose hope! I actually have a C+ on my transcript from freshman year.
  11. And let me just say that autismadvocate, I am pretty sure you will get into FSU and UCF. Your credentials are more than enough for those schools. I know that it is hard to tell which schools you are going to get into, but just based off of experience seeing who goes where from UF, you seem like a good candidate.
  12. Ok so being from UF, I would suggest that if you get into all 3 of the Florida schools you applied to, go to FSU. People are so happy there. And for anybody else, if you are applying to all those Florida schools I listed in the first post, I'd still suggest FSU. Plus they usually give out a ton of funding for their students.
  13. So I go to UF and thus have heard a bunch of things about the main Florida SLP programs (UF, FSU, UCF, USF). Everyone I know who goes to FSU LOVES it. They enjoy it so much. Most of the students that have ended up at FSU are the ones that were stronger UF students but didn't want to go to UF or out of state. They have a lot of autism research and clinic so if you are into that, FSU is awesome. People also really enjoy UCF. Honestly, it is kind of the back-up for the better UF students, but take that with a grain of salt. I do not know as much about their program, but I have heard good things. USF also is good for SLP. I know the least about this program, but once again, I know people that went there and are also very happy.
  14. I know some people at UCF. They love it! I unfortunately havent heard the best things about Nova...It is a private school that accepts so many people. It isn't difficult to get in.
  15. And I got into University of Wisconsin-Madison! I think. The email says that the speech department is sending my accepted application to the graduate school to check that everything works out (minimum GPA, took GRE, and completed prereqs). And invited to the open house. I am going!!! Anybody else going?
  16. Hi everyone. I am so confused on how to apply for financial aid. For each school do I need to go to the financial aid sections and submit applications? Is this the only way to open up a the window of teaching/research assistantships....or do schools just offer those to you even if you don't apply for financial aid? I did not have to take out loans of undergrad so I am confused on how to go about doing that for grad. If I apply for financial aid, am I asking the school to loan me money? How do I get federal loans? Help!
  17. Woah you are super early. Honestly, I hate to say this, but the classes you take now have little to now influence on something as far away as a Masters in SLP. I guess I suggest taking AP Bio or AP Physics so you get that over with and don't have to take those as an undergraudate, but then again taking them actually in college may be helpful...None of the prereqs for SLP you can take in high school, so there isn't much I can tell you. As far as undergraduate institution, go to one that has a Communication Sciences and Disorders/Speech and Hearing Sciences undergraduate program so that you can take the prereqs then and don't have to be a 3-year-Master's student. I see that your info says Fall 2014...is that when you are going into undergraduate? Because if you are a junior in high school now, you aren't going to be an SLP student until at least 2017.
  18. CSDCAS requires an initial transcript before you even get that far in the application. I went ahead and sent that in. Then once December 18th comes there is like a week of 'open' time when you are allowed to resend in transcripts. That is what I am doing.
  19. Woah what? I have not heard this. I am looking at the website and I cannot find where it says this. Can you link me? I doubt this is true because many schools do not even have ASL classes, even if there is a CSD program. UF only has 3 semesters of ASL.
  20. A lot of grad schools have a minimum GPA of a 3.0 for all applicants, but some of the lesser-known schools may not. If you apply for Fall 2014, schools are going to see your GPA after this semester, so try to boost your GPA to a 3.0 during this fall if possible. Also if you explain your situation, full-time work, that may show responsibility and dedication to the admissions team. Did you do well in the prereq courses? Committees like to see A's in the speech/hearing classes and don't mind so much if you screwed up in calc or something. Some programs really accept all types of students. I know NOVA here in Florida accepts many people.
  21. But on the other side, I know a lot of people that are applying to places like Vandy or UNC Chapel Hill just for kicks. Some students in my undergraduate program (UF) are applying to the grad program here even though they know they wont get in. So it may say 300 applied on Edfind, but maybe 50 of them really have no shot.
