  1. This whole phd business is so complicated. I've been rejected from 4/7 programs I applied to thus far. Anyone know if they just aren't taking people without a masters degree? Not that any of this matters now because I just received a job as business manager of a prominent gallery in my city. Next time I apply they can't say no! Haha I might not even do art history after this. The whole system is confusing...can't get a job without a grad degree...can't get in to a grad program without real world experience...
  2. Can add me to the Princeton rejection pile. That's two rejections and five schools left to go. Looks like I'm joining the circus. Not feeling so hopeful over here.
  3. I also received the email from CUNY about the CAA conference. I am really curious to know if everyone got it or not. I'm in pittsburgh, and the weather has been awful. I'm not in the financial position to fly out to Chicago if it's not serious. Also way to give us a full weeks notice on that one...
  4. Actually had a dream last night I was accepted into my top choice program. In the dream I woke up, checked my email, saw the acceptance did a little dance in bed then went back to sleep...I woke up and thought it was real haha checked my email to find only some Pinterest updates. >_<
  5. Hi! I'm contemporary/modern (nothing before 1900) with a focus on critical theory and abject art.
  6. I feel like we are in similar situations. I wasn't going to apply, but my advisor graduated from NU and suggested it. I'm going to email them and see what happens. Not that I'm feeling hopeful I'll get into anything at this point. I also applied to seven schools and only had one interview...and it was one that you ask for on their website. I just want answers!! Good luck on your interview and the research for the exhibition!
  7. Is that for your northwestern app? SAME thing happened to me. It said incomplete due to TOEFL...which I wouldn't need. All of the interviews and acceptances have me freaking out. I refresh my email every 2 minutes. That is not an exaggeration.
  8. Just finished sending in all of my applications! I took a year off after I graduated because I just didn't know what I wanted to do. Finally decided that graduate school was right for me and chose seven programs to apply to, both MA and PhD. I'm terrified I am not going to get in! To anyone who didn't get in their first time around, what sort of programs did you apply to and what did you do once you had to take a full year off again to build your resume? The job market is just so bad that I can't envision continuing the search. Every company I find that I actually want to work for will not take on anyone who doesn't have a masters or 10 years of experience. Good luck to all!
  9. I just sent my application in for Williams as well. I found that they didn't want images to be slightly odd. I assumed it was just to save some space on the application though. I wouldn't over think it! I did find it extremely discomforting that they did not ask for a CV though...so I already emailed them about an interview. I'd love to have a face-to-face one, but temperatures where I am currently living are below zero and the roads are frozen solid. Just incase another storm hits, I am going to go with the phone interview for my own safety. Good luck!! I feel like I need to say may the odds be ever in your favor every time I refer to graduate school...
  10. Thanks so much for the help! I'm sitting in on a graduate seminar at Princeton this week, so fingers crossed. I know SAIC doesn't have a phd program but just incase I don't get into one, I figured applying to a few MA programs would be a safe bet.
  11. Does anyone have any suggestions for a contemporary theory and criticism program? I would like to do a straight phd track if possible. I'm looking at Pitt, Princeton, Case Western, SAIC, and university of Chicago so far. I want to focus on research with the hopes of becoming a professor. I took a year off after getting my BA. Graduated with honors from a liberal arts college, presented my original research at two symposiums, and have had a few internships. I'm interested in abject art, contemporary and modern theory. I'd like to think my application is pretty competitive. Any help will be appreciated! I'm pretty confused about where I want to go and where I can get in.
