  1. Also, I wish Columbia would hurry up and notify everyone their decision.
  2. Have you thought about emailing the department administrator? She seems nice and helpful. I am going to wait until the end of this week, and if I hear no news, I am going to call or email her and ask if all acceptance notifications have been sent out.

I am also visiting Cornell at the end of the month. Do you mind if I ask you how much it costs to fly from California to Ithaca?
  4. So, what is going on with the University of Chicago? I am confused with the latest posts on the results page. If I have not heard from the department, should I assume that I was rejected?
  5. Have you thought about emailing or calling the program administrator?
  6. Were you accepted to Harvard's Regional Studies East Asian (RSEA) program? If so, even if you didn't get funding for the first year, you can still compete for it for your second year. Moreover, a number of people who have the RSEA AM degree often enter a doctoral program at Harvard or other prestigious institutions. Anyways, University of Washington-Seattle is also an excellent school for East Asian Studies. In fact a couple of the tenured faculty in the East Asian Languages & Civilizations program at Harvard received their doctoral degrees from Seattle. May I ask what your fields of interest are? Modern Japanese history? Literature? Pre-modern?
  7. Has anyone, other than the two who posted on the results page a while ago, heard back from Columbia?
  8. I am nervous too. I hope the professors don't think, "My God, why did we admit her." I am also feeling insecure. It seems that most of the other admitted students have degrees from top ten or fifteen universities or liberal arts colleges.
  9. I personally think your proposed fields of study are very interesting. Best wishes on your application!
  10. I co-sign what amanda1655 wrote. Also, I am wondering whether your fields of interest are too "controversial" for the schools you applied to. I am guessing some of the people you would want to study are still live.
  11. I am sorry to hear that. Have you applied to any MA programs? Considering that your interest relates to foreign policy, have you thought of applying to the joint Columbia-LSE MA program? I believe the deadline still has not passed.
  12. I am not sure. The professor at Cornell who called me with the offer of admission encouraged me to call or email him with any questions. As for the other schools, with the exception of emails from potential advisers, I have not had further communication.

That sounds great! I am also all for supporting local business.

How is the housing for graduate students? How are the studios to be more specific?
  15. Thanks!
  16. Someone I know received an offer of admission this week.
  17. I had a phone interview over a month ago with one of my potential advisers. Since then I have heard nothing.
  18. If it was the department chair, I am assuming Professor Bruce Cumings sent out the emails. Did he mention the number of applicants the department accepted this year? Have all the acceptance emails been sent out?
  19. Thank you! I will definitely PM you for details.
  20. Hi. I am new to this forum. It is good to know that others have been going through the same process as me. It has been nerve-wrecking, and I am glad it is almost over. As for the subject of this thread: I am wondering if any of you are or were students at Cornell, and what you think of the university. Also, what do other members of the forum know about its history department? Thank you.
