  1. In late Jan I got an email from the program I applied to saying that I would hear something by the 2nd week of February: either I would be admitted or rejected (early admission), or they might defer until May. We are past the 2nd week of Feb and I haven't heard anything either way. I'm glad that many of you are getting some good news!
  2. I'm applying to an EdD program for the Fall 2015. Just finished the application last week. All of my LORs came in shockingly fast and I submitted my final bit of paperwork today. So now I wait. The early deadline is Jan 21st and the other deadline is in March, I think. All I know is that I should hear something between 4-6 weeks after the deadline...unfortunately I don't know if that is the early deadline or the regular deadline...so I guess I'll just have to be surprised. It's gonna be a looooooong winter!
  3. I think we should avoid judging people. There is no good reason that I am aware of to allow alcohol use and not allow marijuana use, it is a ridiculous legal line in the sand. If one can drink and be an SLP then one can smoke weed and be an SLP, both in moderation of course, and not while on the job. The law is the only thing that makes one acceptable and one unacceptable. I can understand why folks could feel that a drug test is intrusive. That said, marijuana is illegal so one will need to decide whether the pursuit of personal freedoms or a career in SLP is more important. If the concern is with a 'harder' drug then I would agree to seek help.
  4. Drug testing will be in your employment contract. If you do not agree to it then you would have the option to turn down the job. I didn't know there was drug testing for the MA/MS but technically a school would be within its rights to do so as long as you were told about it ahead of time. And by 'told' I mean that it would likely be in the student handbook or something like that, they do not have to tell you directly.
  5. Good point, mine was a grad fellowship, it was stipulation free.
  6. I was fully funded for my Phd, I used it to pay my mortgage each month, to pay off school loans, and to eat. I guess I bought books with it for my research, and I went to a couple of conferences...but yeah, the vast majority went to living expenses, since I couldn't really work full time. However, my PhD was in Educational Policy, so it was theory based, there really weren't a lot of research expenses.
  7. If anyone is still waiting to hear from UCF I called this morning and they said that we *should* know by the end of November... I was hoping to get a more specific date since that is what someone on the results page posted in October...but no such luck.
  8. I just sent simple/short emails to my Professors asking if they would write LORs for me and asking them if they needed any info from me. None of them requested anything, but I know them all pretty well. There were no guidelines for how to ask for LORs at my school.
  9. I met my husband while I was in law school. And it was 2 months in to my first year of law school which is just pure hell. He was not a student, I met him at a party. That was 14 years ago. Not sure the relationship would have worked if he was also a psychotic overworked student like I was though.
  10. You can't bring your own pencils into the room for the computer test, they supply scrap paper (I think it was 4 sheets) and 2 pencils. You can request more if you need it. You will have to put all of your belongings into a locker, if any are available.
  11. The test center provides them. Good luck!
  12. Is there a list anywhere of the MS/MA Distance Learning Programs, I saw a list for Post Bac, but not for the actual degree programs. I'm in Florida and I know FSU has a Distance Learning Program and you have to live in Florida to do it. I'm wondering if that is the case in every state (that you have to live in the state to do the Distance Learning Program there).
  13. Daylight Saving Time adds an extra hour to my wait... ;)

  14. Sorry to hear about the rejections. It is hard to be denied something that we want, but it clears the way for something even better to come along!
  15. I applied to UCF for Spring 2014...still waiting... The waiting is the hardest part right???
