  1. I'm assuming they lost my application. But at this point, i'm fine with that. I already have too many acceptance to deal with.
  2. I haven't seen any other Michigan State applicants on here but just in case, I called today and sculpture results should be announced tomorrow.

    1. There are safe parts of the city and also very unsafe parts of the city. I would recommend living in the Avondale or Homewood area. 2. It rains a fair bit but not enough to really alter the living routine. We do get the occasional thunderstorm, tornado, or hurricane though. 3. It is hot in the summer, yes. I would not recommend living without AC. Sometimes it gets hot enough for heat advisories.
  4. That sucks about your rejections. Keep your head up for next year and my advice would be to find some schools that are a little lower than the "top 25". There are some amazing programs out there that have higher acceptance rates and still offer great funding and assistantships. I wish you the best.
  5. Hey folks. I've been accepted to the University of Maryland College Park for fall 2014. I'm seriously considering attending, if the funding is right. I was born and raised in Alabama and am used to a very low cost of living and virtually no access to public transit. I'm going for an open house visit on March 28th and besides visiting the school, I'd like to check out the surrounding area for possible places to live. I've looked through this post and read all of the helpful tips but I'd like to have some actual names of apartment complexes or streets that I should visit while in the area. Thanks in advance for the help. Hopefully i'm not the only one who could benefit from some inside information.
  6. Checked the mail and found an acceptance letter from Cincinnati. 3 acceptances in one day. I feel like I can breathe a little easier now.
  7. I received acceptance emails from The University of Georgia and The University of Maryland today. Looks like i'm officially going to grad school.
  8. Thank you. In the email they said that the end of the application season is April 15th (per usual). But they said that they hope to have "closure" before then. That makes me feel like it's a funeral.
  9. Welp. Heard back from Tennessee tonight. I've been wait-listed. But the good news is that i'm their 3rd choice for 2 spots. So if either of those two who were accepted decline the offer, then I'm in. The wait continues.
  10. Alfred is a great program. One of my professors went there for his BFA & MFA and helped with their China exchange program. I was going to apply to Alfred until I talked to him. Alfred is in the middle of nowhere. It is very remote and there isn't much of a "city" or "town" nearby. Look the school up on Google Maps. For me, this was a big deal. I didn't want to be that isolated. Also, going by what my professor said, their TA program is usually not "teacher of record" meaning that you won't gain a lot if any actually teaching assistance and you will more likely be sweeping floors and keeping the studio spaces clean. But like I said, the program is great and if you can overlook those things, I'm sure you'll enjoy your time there.
  11. I hope to hear something back from Tennessee tomorrow. It's been one week since the interview and tomorrow is when they said I would hear back from them. Also, I checked the status of my application online and it says that a decision has been made. Has anyone else seen their online status change but not been contacted directly?
  12. Has anyone been able to check their application status for Indiana University Bloomington. I'm able to login in to my account, but after that, their instructions don't work for what I'm seeing.
  13. There seems to be a lot of people in these threads who only apply to the top 10-20 schools. (according to US News) And several of these people seem to be on their 2nd or 3rd application season. I'm curious as to why people continue to apply to these "top tier" schools. Besides reputation, are these schools offering something that similar but lesser known (ranked) schools could offer with a much higher acceptance rate? Not trying to sound antagonistic, just genuinely curious.
  14. I came really close to applying there. I know one of the sculpture professors there and she advised me not to. They are gutting their ceramics and metals programs. As in, literally selling the equipment & tools and converting the spaces for other uses.
  15. I had my Skype interview with Tennessee yesterday and it went very well. I've been really impressed with what their sculpture program offers. Has anyone else had a Skype interview yet?
  16. They told me they haven't received mine and I sent mine electronically.
  17. Indiana has been a pain in the butt as far as the website/login/application status thing goes. I can't find anything, no one on the phone can tell me anything and when I send an email they just reply and tell me to contact another office/department.
  18. I have a friend working on her 2nd MFA in sculpture. She went back to learn the new technology that wasn't available during her first go, like cnc, laser, 3D printing.. The "get a job" comment is incredibly disparaging and unnecessary.
  19. Useless Trivia: Hennessey's is the voice behind the "do the harlem shake" videos. Also, He (Jayson Musson) received his MFA in painting at the University of Pennsylvania.

Every application I filled out asked which institute I studied math at. I wish I had had such a prestigious response as yours.
  21. Thank you so much. You're the second UGA person to reach out to me on here. It means a lot. Thanks.
  22. 6 applications in. I feel like I should have submitted at least 7-8. Applying for MFA in Sculpture for Fall 2014 University of Cincinnati Michigan State University Indiana University-Bloomington University of Tennessee-Knoxville University of Georgia-Athens University of Maryland-College Park Still waiting on one professor to submit his letters, then I'm done. My sense of relief for having finished my applications is being overshadowed by worry and anticipation of results.
  23. I think it also comes down to your chances. I don't know my chances of getting accepted anywhere, so the more lines i cast out the better chance of getting a bite i guess.
  24. How many schools are you applying to? What is the least/most amount of schools you would recommend applying to? or have heard of someone applying to? I've applied to 4 of my 7 choices. I'm thinking of adding more or stopping at 5. Just trying to get some perspective. Thanks.
  25. I'm primarily looking for schools in more urban settings (other than Alfred). I come from a very small town and would like a change of environment. And I'm also only really looking at schools near the east, I haven't really considered any schools in the west.
