your guess is as good as mine, I'm guessing the War in Iraq costed the government a lot of resource/money
-
Unlikely, I doubt that the award lists will be down for that long...
-
Yes, you may be right! Now the missing piece of the puzzle is the "maintenance" announcement that was supposed to happen today...
-
this is gold haha
-
nicee, I'm 2nd year in grad school, I'm old = ( but I am also working indirectly on black holes = )
-
if you don't mind me asking, what year are you in? and what area in physics/astro?
-
haha, having hopes up for early release but then not getting a word is too mentally taxing for me...
-
Unfortunately, based on @mars667 and @Straightoutta's comments, I think it might be next week (27th)
-
I would say highly likely (80%). Last year was released on 3/17. The government shutdown lasted about 3 days so it is perfectly reasonable to delay exactly 3 days.... Pumped!
-
Yes, with all the info at hand, everything does seem to point towards a Tuesday release. Hopefully all the outreach stuff I've done would make a difference. Fingers crossed!
-
thanks! Yeah, it was a shot in the dark anyways, I kind of wrote the proposal on my own with little advising from professors.... I am still glad that they gave me solid criticisms
-
haha yea I got double very good from one, and quadruple fair from the other two....

Just got the reviews for my NSF proposal back, one of them says "As an undergraduate, the applicant demonstrates the desire, communication and computation ability to conduct meaningful research for the chosen field. Overall, I get the impression that the applicant has many ideas, but needs guidance narrowing the scope of work and setting realistic expectations. With work and mentoring, the applicant could conduct impactful research in their chosen field." but "The applicant has research experience as shown by the applicant's publication and presentation record. The proposal is ambitious, and I believe it is to the point that the applicant will be unable to be achieved during a single PhD. The applicant's research statement would benefit from more focus and detail on fewer topics. The reference letters together do not assuage my fears that the applicant will be unable narrow the focus of the research without a strong and involved advisor." soooo rejected????? anyways, it's okay, I already have a fellowship with 30k per year before taxes, it's just that I spent so much time on this....

I got an offer from ASU a few weeks back but not an ideal location.... so declined lol -
I didn't have a problem making my email and account, perhaps call Northwestern's IT help desk?
-
Hi there, in my case, I was accepted to three graduate programs prior to the visit to Northwestern. I was offered admission 1 week after the visit and immediately accepted the offer, i.e. the visit was amazing, Evanston and the whole feel of the campus and the student body was just wonderful.
-
In my mind, all programs at Northwestern would fall under this thread. Anyway, most of the threads in this topic are ordered by school, not programs.

Hey! We found each other online because we are in the same department. Each of us will end up paying 900 per month which is really good compared to where I live now. It's been about a week since I accepted the offer. Do you think I will get the northwestern email from the graduate school or the department? Thanks
-
Yep, we are sharing a cheaper place there, (2 bedroom for around 900$ each). What I've is most 1st years do the on-campus graduate apartments and then move out to off-campus ones the following years. I have a friend who even commutes from Chicago starting 2nd year.
-
Sounds cool! I am originally from Taiwan so the East Coast was a new experience me as well. I already found a place (with a roommate) in Evanston Place (http://www.evanstonplaceapts.com/). They are a bit on the expensive side but I've heard nothing except great things about it. And the location is great, right next to campus. I actually visited campus 2 weeks ago. My visit was what ultimately resulted in my decision to go to Northwestern ^^ What date are you planning on moving to Evanston/Chicago?

I just received and accepted the official offer from Northwestern University to start this Fall. If you are planning on going to Northwestern for graduate degree, please feel free to post here!
