  1. My letter of recs were from my research professor at CSULB, a teacher from LBUSD, and a teacher/ program coordinator at GGUSD. I've done volunteer work with the Truancy Reduction Center (about 120 hours), working with students who are truant in school, meeting with them and the parent to figure out what's going on and provide counseling. All of my work experiences has involved kids from pk-k12. I have nine jobs on my resume as of right now because I couldn't fit in any more than that. I've had different positions in different school districts, either working as an interpreter, a college aide, or as a tutor. I am also leading a research right now at CSULB with one of my professors, a study on intimate partner violence amongst asian and latino cultures.

  2. Who is choosing Fullerton as their school of choice? Has everyone heard from them by now? I was recently accepted to the 2 year program under the child welfare concentration and am STOKED! My original plan was to go to long beach. However, after having my interview, I found the staff incredible friendly and inviting. I also thought the school was beautiful and would be a great place for me to experience new things. I went to LB for my undergrad, and though I loved it, I felt the MSW program there wasn't as inviting as the other schools I applied to. I want to feel invited and welcomed, and also supported during my two years of study. And so... I am happy to say that Fullerton will be number one choice!

  3. Did anyone get accepted to LB and is going to attend? My original plan was to go to LB but after being put on pending status, waiting until July for a response does not make me want LB as badly anymore. I know that LB has one of the older MSW programs but I hear a lot of people saying that they're telling students there will be changes going on in this upcoming year so it'll be less organized and less structured. What the hell.. what kind of convincing message is that. I am liking csulb less and less each day and this is coming from a student who went there for undergrad.

  4. Yea that was one of my options. Deposit is $280 so it is a lot of money to just let go incase CSULB accepts me but it is way less than $95,000. I got a scholarship for 5,500 which seems like most people are getting. And although it is 5,500, compared to a 95,000 its almost nothing.

I was really considering postponing my application for USC for next year (2015), this is also an option. I feel that if I do that I will be able to apply to waaaay more scholarships early on the year. And I will also have the opportunity to wait on LB (which I called today and I agree with prior posts, they are so rude and not helpful, AT ALL.) My heart is set for LB :/ but it sucks that they are being inconsiderate with all of us trying to make decisions.

Did you only apply to these two schools? I applied to CSULB, USC, and CSUF. LB is my first choice, too, and they are also making me wait until July. I had to respond to both USC and CSUF before LB even gave me an answer and accepted both. For USC, they kept making me make a deposit (and I was definitely not ready to accept) so I deferred by application until next year. I really don't want to go there because of the money... but I did want to keep my options open and need the time to decide the financial stuff. Hope that helps!

  5. LBER, I am in the same boat. Waiting around for a school, and having no clue of their decision, is definitely frustrating. At first, LB was my back up choice and USC was my first. So when I was accepted to USC, I thought I'd get in for sure! My friend last year applied to the program with a 3.9 and was rejected. I have no idea what to expect from them... so much for a rolling admissions basis because they for sure did not send out letter early on in the application process. I applied in november!

I feel you on the financing situations. I don't know if I should start looking for a place in Long Beach or for a place in LA. Waiting for so long sucks.

  6. I applied to CSUN and USC. LB is my top choice. I went to CSUN for undergrad, I want a change.

I applied to USC and LB, too! And CSUF. I went to CSULB for my undergrad. Great atmosphere, you will love it.

  7. I know. It's too late. I applied in February. I am on pins and needles every day. I check my email constantly. They said all I can do at this time in the application process, is wait.

Is LB your first choice? Where else have you applied? This wait makes me anxious, too. Having to wait until July feels like a lifetime!

  8. I honestly want to go to CSULB because I had a great time there during my undergrad years and I would definitely love to be back. I've seen USC and CSUF before and I don't like it as much. The campus is great, the people are friendly, and the professors would do anything to help you succeed (well, if you put in the effort). The reputation was one factor that made it difficult to choose at first. However, after speaking to so many MSW professors and admission counselors, I heard over and over again that it doesn't really matter where you get your degree, it's what you're willing to put into it. So what it all comes down to is the location of the school and the costs. Of course we would all love to go to USC for the prestige but not all of us have that kind of money, sadly.

  9. I am curios to know how everyone is handling the waiting period. I know there are similar posts in other forums, but since I mostly stick to the SW forum, I thought it would be nice to post one in this forum.

I started volunteering. I also enrolled in a yoga class...figured yoga would be beneficial to my self-care :).

I graduated in december so I am free for a semester until grad school starts! This wait makes me anxious... so I have bombarded myself with work. I work at a high school, tutor kids at elementary and middle schools, work with kids who are truant, and am leading a research at CSULB on domestic violence. AND!!! I am doing yoga too! Are you doing corepower? I've done a lot of different kinds but hot yoga at corepower is my all time favorite.
