  1. I agree. I think they all have some sort of automated reply in this regard. I had waited more than three months from the deadline and e-mailed to a school. One or two days later, I received acceptance but on the next day, I got the reply of my e-mail saying that they would take few more weeks to take decision on my admission.
  2. Usually fund related and academic questions- how funding process works, prospect of summer RA or internship, types of research I shall be engaged in, any prerequisites (like learning any new tools or application before coming), load and responsibilities of RA (or TA).
  3. I dont see why this should be a problem. A professor (who recruited me) from one of my admits mailed me simulataneously with the graduate office. I have been writing to her asking different questions and most importantly, she always reiterates that I should ask her questions regarding anything. She seems to appreciate my queries. May be this way she gauges my interest in her program. One particular reason I am writing to my prospective advisors is that I have been accepted to two closely ranked schools. Both of them have some pros and cons. So, I want to take decision by nature of the research works of my prospective advisors, their attitude etc. So far, none of them seems to be annoyed at my queries.
  4. Did you mean University of Florida by UF? If it is so, then I shall tell you to consider UF carefully. I have heard some negative comments from UFL CS graduates. Particularly those who are going there with funding, sometimes suffer. For example, once the authority simply cut the pay of the assistantship to half. I have even heard that some CS grad students are moving to other universities! May be, these are exceptional incidents, but I would suggest that you should talk to UFL current graduates before taking any final decision.
  5. Is anybody going to UMass Amherst?
  6. Are you an international applicant? If you are, then it might be a reason for delayed mail. Some schools send all mails through US postal service which takes few weeks to reach the destination. For example, one school sent me a document through normal postal service and it took almost 5 weeks to reach me. I am afraid if they send my I-20 over normal mail, I might miss my visa deadline.
  7. I want to know the ranking of UMass Amherst and UC Irvine in Computer Science PhD category. I prefer USNews ranking but other rankings will also do. I have USNews ranking for 2006. I do not have any recent version. Can anybody help?
  8. Hi, I have received admission with financial support from UC Irvine. They will pay me $1700 per month for 9 months each year. I know California is among the expensive states in US. I just want to know if this amount is enough for living expense, books and food. Moreover, I found that ("City Guide" forum) on campus housing is cheaper than off campus housing. Do you have any idea what should I do regarding housing? Even if I take on campus housing, should I take it as single user or share it with somebody? I just need some advices on these matters. Thanks in advance.
  9. To MebiggyNooby, There may be two reasons for your failure to log in at UMD. 1. The UID is actually UMCP ID. It is given at "Verify Contact Information" page at your apra account. The password is your date of birth (mmddyy). 2. Testudo site is not operational 24X7. They have downtime. I dont know the exact timing. Hope this helps.
  10. Well I am an international student of Computer Science. They have waived my out-state tuition fee and will cover my health insurance. I am particularly concerned about my living cost (food and housing). Since I do not know the living cost at NC, I just want an idea about how much living cost may take.
  11. I have received a financial support package from NCSU. It is $14040. I have to run the expense of living, books, travels and an extra cost of $1500 with this amount. Can anybody tell me if this amount is enough?
