Haha thanks. Though if you are not gonna fund me, I take that as a rejection
-
Accepted to GWU without funding, too. Yeah, I will reject the offer to live in NYC and I will pay thousands of dollars to become a scholar lol. And as usual, NYU official rejection. See, was that so hard to send, admissions office?
-
Thanks everyone for your support. Hehe I am not sure if I will take this offer, Brandeis or GWU seems like a better option for now. We'll see...
-
Oh thanks man. I am finally relieved, now that I won't have to sit home and apply next year. Plus, the night life of NYC will make up for all the pain of this process I hope

Official rejection from Columbia, not that I had any hopes anyway. Though I just received an e-mail from CUNY. I am in. (FINALLY SOMEWHERE TO GO FOR ME! ) I have a question about the wording of the e-mail though. "I am pleased to notify you that you will soon be offered admission to our program. I am also especially pleased to inform you that you will also be offered an Enhanced Chancellor’s Fellowship" That "will be offered" means "you will receive the official letter soon", right? (god I hope thats the case.)
-
Though I was hopeful since someone on the site said they accepted 15 people this year. Thats double the number of people accepted last year. Oh well, at least I was hopeful until acceptances arrived from them to some people on here and not to me.
-
Aaaand just received my rejection from Brown That makes 3 contacts so far.
-
LOL. Isn't it funny that I applied to 9 schools and only been contacted by 2 schools for rejections so far and nothing else? (and one of them was through my efforts). I really hope for some contact. I thought my mind would be at ease by mid-March.
-
Dont hesitate. I think as long as it is not confirmed here on the forum, we write them off as fake anyways.
-
Thanks a lot. They did not respond my e-mails and I'm dying to hear from them since I have very little options left.
-
Hehe, do not bother with the e-mail or even calls for that matter. They have a strict policy of "we don't care about you, losers", so they never reply.
-
I only received an official rejection from UT Austin. And for Northwestern, I personally e-mailed Will Reno and learned (unofficially) that I was rejected. For the others, I have not been officially rejected. But, since people received their acceptance e-mails at a certain time and a certain day not only this year but in recent years as well, and people who hadn't been notified at that specific time were very rarely accepted at a later time... This, although unofficially, insinuates that I did not get an acceptance. Hence, de facto.
-
Of course I am not the Brandeis acceptance. You should have learned that my luck is TERRIBLE! :/ If that acceptance is genuine, then I am officially rejected by all of my choices. Though I'd really appreciate to learn who the accepted person is. I had very strong insider info that they were to accept 4 people this year.

Bottom line is, if a foreigner can't get a tenure track job, the prospects of working in the US is bleak at best.
-
If it was all up to me, I would get into CIA and even leak intel from my home country lol. But at this point, with people writing bitterly about the job market in academia, and how adjunct is the new thing, paying people $3000 a semester... I would be content by teaching English in private schools in Brazil

Think tanks? (I would say government as well but I doubt they employ foreigners such as me )
-
Not being a US or Canada or EU citizen, I do not think any program that is not fully funded would work for me, no loans available. Besides, faith is the least thing I need now, since my extremely religious dad has started the "god gives us what is good for us. maybe grad school wasn't good for you" talk
-
I e-mailed Brown and asked this: "I applied to your phd program in political science for fall 2010. I was wondering... when does the committee start making decisions? And what is the medium of announcing the results, especially for the accepted candidates that live abroad?" This is the answer: "Decisions have not been posted for this program. You will receive e-mail notification when the decision is available."
-
With the rejections I already have, I'm pretty sure I won't get in anywhere this year. Stats are not the only thing that counts during this process, it is sometimes about luck as well. And as my mom often says, "if it rained apples, and only one of'em was a stone, it'd find our head to fall". And yeah, Eva Bellin is awesome and I had my eye on her, and Talal Asad, when I was applying there.
-
Definitely a PhD! I mean, if you are not interested in spending 5+ years of your life studying, you could always leave the phd after the 2nd year. They often award you with a Master's degree in that case anyways. But if you are concerned about your study topic... I heard that schools are flexible with areas. Some schools (like NYU) make you apply for Comparative or IR specifically instead of Political Science (IR). If that was not the case, you will be fine. Besides, (if I got it correctly) you will study the interplay between domestic and foreign. That is within the scope of IR, not CP.

Even though you2ll turn it down, can you ask what the funding is like? At this point, it is ridiculous to hope that they will accept me as well but it has been said they are usually stingy with the stipend.
-
The classic question: was it a personal e-mail? or a phone call by whom? And what did they say about funding? I see you will be attending to Rutgers, will you turn down CUNY's offer?
-
I was really hoping for GWU this Thursday/Friday. But the snow thing in DC might have pushed it to next week.
-
I see. Then I should start using some numbers on my writing sample for next year By the way, even though we study different regions, we do study the same topic. So I'll keep my eyes open for future publications and make sure I'll increase your citation
