A general question about securing an apartment in Westwood/nearby neighborhoods: when is the best time to look for an apartment? I'm moving from the east coast and don't really have the funds to make a separate trip to go to LA earlier in the summer and find a place. Would I be OK looking for a place when I get there in September? I know people in LA I could stay with temporarily. Would I be able to find a place and move in relatively quickly?
  2. UCLA Grad Division took a little over two weeks to get back to me. It's frustrating waiting, I know. Hopefully you'll hear soon.
  3. Anyone else planning to attend UCLA this fall? I haven't officially accepted my offer yet, but I almost certainly will within the next week or so. I thought I'd start this thread off for this year. I'll be moving from the east coast, so any advice on housing/settling into Los Angeles would be great.
  4. Congrats on the acceptance! Unfortunately I've got nothing. UCLA's my first choice right now, so I'll keep on hoping.
  5. Also received an offer from NYU. To the above poster, my offer was specifically for the Sackler Institute of New York University School of Medicine. I applied for the neuroscience and physiology program through Sackler. Not sure how CNS is handling admission offers, and I'm not sure if that class of 16 is for the combined neuro program or just Sackler.

  7. Where did you see that UCSD Neuroscience sent out invites? There's nothing in this thread or on the results page, so I assumed invites would go out mid-January (seems to be the pattern from previous years).
  8. OHSU Neuroscience Graduate Program sent out some invites today!
  9. University of Maryland (GPiLS-PiN): 1/30-2/1 or 2/6-2/8 Michigan State University: 1/22-1/25 VCU (BSDP): 1/16-1/18 (many later dates available) UNC (BBSP): 1/23-25 Texas Austin: 2/20-23 UCLA: 2/8-10 UCSF: 2/14-15, 2/28-3/1 UVA: 1/16-18 Vanderbilt (IGP): 1/9-11 (other dates unknown but available) UC Irvine: 1/23-25
  10. Yes, I applied for IGP. There were no dates given in my initial email (either interview date or when to respond by), but I was asked to respond with my availability and was then assigned an interview weekend based on when I was free. Really considerate, actually! Like I said a few pages back, it definitely seems like they are hosting a number of interview weekends with rolling invitations.
  11. Just checked UCSF's website to find my first rejection. It was definitely a reach school for me, but it still stings.
  12. Also applied, and also haven't heard anything. Not super helpful, but at least there's two of us in the same boat!
  13. Just an FYI for you people applying/interviewing at the University of Washington: no one, I repeat, no one, affiliated with the school or even living in the state of Washington ever refers to the school as "UWash." If you're going to shorten the school's name, it's UW (often "U-Dub" in conversation). By all means refer to the school however you like here in the forums, but if you interview there and refer to it as UWash you might sound a bit strange. It doesn't want to get confused with Washington University in St. Louis which often goes by Washington University or WashU or WUSTL.
  14. It says on UCLA's website that there will be two interview weekends, so maybe there will be another round of invites? UCLA is one of my top choices, so I don't want to give up hope just yet.
  15. Thanks! Undergrad: Large public research university Major: Double major in biology and psychology GPA: 3.56 Type of Student: Domestic GRE: 162 V | 163 Q | 5.0 AW Research Experience: Summer internship for Dept. of Energy in proteomics lab 1 yr clinical neuroscience research Summer internship in European neuroscience lab 1 yr cardiology research Working as a research tech in neuropharmacology lab since graduation (will be 2 yrs next summer) I currently have one publication in press (a review, second author) and will be middle author on 2+ publications that my lab is preparing now. Both are onsite interviews in January. For both UNC and Vanderbilt it did sound like they are doing rolling interviews and admissions.
  16. Hey all. Thought I'd finally post, as I've been lurking for the past week or so. I've applied to neuroscience/biomedical sciences umbrella programs and am hoping to specialize in cellular/molecular neuroscience, specifically neurodegeneration and repair. I was surprised to hear back from two schools this week: invited for interviews at UNC-Chapel Hill (BBSP) and Vanderbilt (IGP). I'm holding out for some of the west coast schools, but I am still thrilled to have heard back so soon. I did apply in early/mid November, so that may have something to do with it. Anyway, best of luck to everyone this application season! I'll be checking in these next few weeks.
