I second this. I just bowed out of my last interview weekend because I've already found and been accepted to a school I absolutely love. I didn't want to waste any of their time (or any more of my PTO) by visiting somewhere I am no longer excited about.

From my own personal experience, it has a lot to do with program fit and if you can really articulate your past research experiences. However, interviewing more than a month after initial recruitment weekends can also have an impact (they say it doesn't but really… the acceptances are probably all decided). Also, I interviewed at a program last year where I felt really out of my league. It was as if they had invited a few applicants just to invite many more people than would ever be accepted..but I could just be imagining things.

Yay Cancer Bio! As for getting invites from two different departments, I don't think it would be that unusual. They are very separate entities and there probably isn't too much crosstalk between them. Case in point, I applied to two programs at the same school last year and got interview invites for both.

I think the coordinator said she would get them to us by Friday of this week.

I second this. Last year I applied to 10 schools, interviewed at 4, was accepted at 1 (that I didn't end up liking) and rejected by the rest. I've spent my gap year as a technician in my undergrad lab and it has been absolutely awesome. Waiting a year if you have to is most definitely not the end of the world and you'll actually have some time to do fun things!

Northwestern DGP and UW-Madison Molecular Tox invites came today. I'm starting to run out of weekends...

I got an interview invite on December 20th. Haven't heard anything from them since.

I think mine was so expensive because I fly out of a really small airport. I would think $400 is a decent amount for a flight. Regardless though, I'm not too sure many of us have that much disposable income where we can wait to be reimbursed for three months. Alright, I'll stop whining now.

I'm actually driving down to Vanderbilt because I couldn't find a flight under $600, but I had another school email me this morning about scheduling my own flights. Its just a tad bit annoying/awkward I guess. Oh well...

Has anyone else had to schedule their own flights to interviews? I find this a little odd...

UC Denver Cancer Biology invite! too bad their weekends overlap with ones I've already scheduled… Feb 6-9 and 20-23. Hopefully they have another alternate!

UTSW has 6 weekends based on interest. I forget exactly when they all are, but one is Feb 6-8th.
