  1. Hi friends, So I applied to a school which stated on its website that electronic copies of transcripts could be used to evaluate my application. Middle of the game, awaiting a decision, the university mails me saying, "We have reviewed your application for admission to graduate study, and are unable to proceed because of important transcripts missing from your application file. .... Please mail the required transcript(s) as soon as possible ....:" In their defense, I recently discovered they wrote on their website that the e'nic copies could be used for an initial review but the office of admissions will only consider the official transcripts...wheeze! Thing is ordering transcripts from my undergraduate institution costs me a lot (approx $68 per copy) and given that I have not even gotten an interview notification yet, I am reluctant to blow away hard-earned money these days. I am also aware that there might be a silver lining regarding a decision giving their recent communication but I am just trying to keep my finances in check... What do you suggest I do?
  2. The conventional wisdom is to go where you are funded. I would not do a self-sponsored PhD. It's only other relative is hell
  3. Thanks! Found my way around it. Cheers!
  4. Learning Python, watching movies and fretting in-between these activities by incessantly checking on the gradcafe results page. Two weeks ago, U. Florida asked me to send in my BS transcripts and they sort of hinted in the mail that that was what was delaying their decision. My gut feeling is I'll be accepted there//one of my back-up schools. My POI at UCSB has not been responding to my mails lately...life is terrible waiting for the moment folks!
  5. Yes, cookies were deleted for my browser, Chrome. Tried Internet explorer and still same old, same old. How do you work around issues like this when you encounter them?
  6. Hi guys, S So I applied to USC on the deadline, Dec 01, 2014 and I've not heard nothing from them including the supposed mail informing me of my USC ID. Worse still, their website refuses to load up on my system (been trying for a month or so now). Anyone in this same fix? I have flushed my dns, changed dns and still won't work. Annoying thing is the site loads on my phone but I can hardly do anything on my phone. Any useful tips would be appreciated. Thanks!
  7. Thank you, bombilfry. I checked somewhere on my department website and they actually said statements are not required for now. At least, not until an admission decision is made. Fingers crossed, chin cupped in hollow of palm :)
  8. Hello good people, I am applying to UC Riverside as an international PhD applicant and there is a section where one is basically required to fill out a financial statement form as to whether one would be contributing personal, family/friend, or government sponsorship towards the realization of one's graduate education. Thing is I am not expecting to contribute my personal savings or that of any family or friend as I am hoping for a TA/RAship that would fund my PhD program (I know it would be competitive). Do you think this would automatically throw my application into the unserious pack if I am honest in the application? I look forward to your replies. Thanks!
  9. Thanks meowth! I'm doing a reminder and mailing my referees about this immediately!
  10. Thanks meowth and surefire. Just one more question, meowth, UF's application does not synchronize my references to the two departments and I am wondering if your referees had to upload a single reference for both departments as you seem to suggest. I have been having trouble getting my refs to upload reference to my second application. Looking forward to your reply!
  11. It really helps, unbrokenthread. Thanks for your response!
  12. Hello guys, So I'm applying to two schools (Virginia and Univ. Florida) and they say I could apply to a different department without needing to pay an extra application fee. Thing is I do have cross-disciplinary interests that border the departments of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. In the higher rated schools, I would rather indicate my desire to work with other labs and faculty in the other departments in my statement of purpose but I am afraid i might be limited to one department if I have to go to these other schools which allow multiple applications. Also, they do not emphasize multidisciplinary research on their webpages and I am guessing this is the reason why they allow multiple applications. Anyone with a thought and guidance on this would be *wildly* appreciated. :)
