Thanks guys, you talked me down from the ledge! I'll leave my POI alone I have a ton of work to do today, but have resigned to stare at my email inbox instead.

I'm thinking about emailing my POI at UT Austin directly to see if all of his interview invitations went out. Is contacting the POI appropriate? Has this worked well for others? I don't want to come across bothersome.

Can any UT Austin Developmental interviewees PM their POI? Pretty please? I'm officially going loco with the uncertainty of this whole process! The UT Austin grad admissions counselor told me today that interviews are sent out on a rolling basis- no word as to when they will all be sent out. But, seems like the interview date is really soon...

From the results board, it looks like Vanderbilt psychological sciences Ph.D. applicants may have received their interview invitations way back in mid-December. Can anyone confirm that their interviews are all out? Thanks!

Does anyone have any updates about the PhD in Psychological Sciences, jointly offered by peabody and the dept. of psychology?

Haha- this is going to be an intense week! I'm still waiting on UT Austin developmental. Does anyone know if all the interviews went out? Someone had mentioned that they were suppose to go out last week, but I didn't see any updates on the results page (besides one from 1/7). Should I assume it's a no go?

Hmm- this is a silly question, but did you make it really clear to the POI that you'd have to fly from Russia to attend? I can't imagine they wouldn't let you interview by skype if you're halfway around the world :-(

Don't stress about this! Most pre-application emails get responses like: "Yes, I am accepting applicants. Good luck!" Occasionally, I spoke with profs more about our shared research interest, but it definitely wasn't the norm. I've even asked professors about this practice and heard mixed feelings. Some didn't like being contacted beforehand and other did. Either way, I don't think they discount applicants if they haven't heard from them yet.

Informant's advice is good for all applicants- make sure that you talk with the professor AND - especially - his/her graduate students about mentoring style. Ask grad students how their relationship (pros/cons) is with the advisor!

Does anyone know if UT Austin (Developmental Psych) is done with interview invites?

Hey- I got a phone interview request from UCSB social psych. But, I agree with PsycD that it's too early to stress. One of my buddies didn't hear back about interviews until the 3rd week of January and got accepted into several of the top 10 psych PhD programs in the country. You just never know! That said, I'm still obsessively checking my email every 10 minutes...

Hey mousanony, I received an email from a UCSB prof in social psych requesting a phone interview. Haven't heard from anyone at UT Austin yet (I applied there as well). On that note, are phone interviews pretty typical before inviting a student to an interview weekend? Or are they more to check out a student when they aren't sure of the fit? Best of luck to all!
