Sorry to hear it Skylarking. I totally struck out for my anthropology goals. I have one more psychology MA application to wait on--prayers to the gods of academia.
-
I had my wife call UW-Madison (haha) and they said admissions decisions would be released by the end of next week. Just figured you folks would appreciate the heads up.
-
Yikes, more bad news today. Looks like this might not be my year. Ah well, it was a first attempt.

I'm redirecting my trajectorial aim towards a few schools in Boulder. It looks like I might wash out from my anthropology PhD cycle this year, and am looking at rolling admissions MA degrees there. The Wilderness Therapy Psych MA from Naropa is really speaking to me.

University of Wisconsin-Madison? UT Austin?
johnreggae replied to johnreggae's topic in Anthropology Forum
Sweet, thanks for the heads ups. UT Austin has been oddly quiet in Cultural and I am really itching to hear back about Madison. -
It's looking like this will be my track as well. So far I have 6 rejections (counting Chicago, which I am assuming I was rejected from) out of my 9 applications. I received a rejection from Oregon today, but am taking it well, and in stride. Sorry to hear about everyone's rejections: I truly sympathize. Also, congratulations to everyone's acceptances--you guys rock!

I saw several recent anthropology acceptances via post from UW-Madison and was just curious if anyone had any info about Madison's timeline. etc. Any insider info? I am also curious about UT Austin's situation. Any tidbits of info would be appreciated. The wait is turning me into a nutter. Oh, I am talking about the cultural anthropology/social anthropology programs at these schools, specifically. Thanks kindly.

Nothing from Madison on my end. If you hear anything, keep me posted!

Sorry to hear the news, mate. Things are looking the same for me as well. Why do you think you are rejected from Madison? Just an assumption based on the couple of acceptances that were posted? Madison is my top choice, and I am sort of beginning to think that if I don't receive anything by post today I can probably (?) write them off. What about a rolling admissions MA somehwere?

Thanks, Sarab! Me too, although I have learned to keep my expectations very low on hearing anything back at all. Too many days of "this is the day!" without fruit have taught me to not expect much. Ah well, let us all remain calm like the Buddha. I hope more good news comes your way as well.

Thanks for the condolences! The bummer of it all is only starting to sink in today. My morning hour of cardio was spent dwelling on it. Arizona wasn't an excellent fit and I knew it, which is turning out to be a pretty consistent error on my part: going for schools that are more prestigious rather than going for best fit with my research trajectory. I luckily picked about 3-4 solid fits and am still waiting to hear back from them, so my fingers are crossed.

Double whammy rejections yesterday from Cornell and Arizona. Yikes!

Same here.

Sorry to hear it, Skylarking. I am in the same boat, unfortunately. I am already applying to rolling admission MA programs in light of my (imagined) iminent across-the-board rejections. Hang in there, buddy, and don't be sorry for whining. If any place is meant for it, this forum is definitely the place. It is always nice to have comiserators. I have a wife and two kids and I still feel fairly alone in this whole process. It seems hard for anyone not going through it to fully understand the heart-wrenching agony of it all; but I am grateful for this forum for the little bit of comeraderie and complaining it provides.

I feel similarly. I am guessing that I didn't get accepted due to none of the acceptances on the results board being mine. Given that not every applicant is on thegradcafe.com, I would imagine that--from the amount of acceptnaces--all yes answers have gone out, and the nos will be soon to follow. I understand the sort of ritualistic nature of this whole process, but it would be really nice to have some certainty, at least as far as a date of notice, or consistency in releasing both positive and negative notices. Oh well. I am starting to think that I really underestimated this whole process!

I'm waiting on Wisconsin, myself. My top pick, as my oldest daughter lives in Madison.
-
I agree. My first two responses were rejections, and I am really itching to hear something--positive or negative--to break the radio silence of the day. I thought for sure some major shit was about to go down today, as far as notifications; but alas not a single response. I saw several notices from Cornell on the admissions results board, but nothing for me yet.
-
Last time on earth? Don't go too overboard! Rejection sucks, but it is just school--it doesn't reflect on how you are as a person, or is not indicative of your self worth. From what I have gathered in my time lurking through all of these posts, the entire process is a game of chance. And who knows, those entirely unrelated schools might just give you a shot. Keep the faith!

I have resorted to Santeria and diablero magic, myself.
-
Don't lose hope--you've still got a few to hear from yet! Edit: But to be honest, my hope is dwindling as well, haha. Cheers to doubt!
-
Same to you. I must admit I am slightly jealous of your acceptance(s). Congrats!
-
Oh, I totally forgot about the holiday on Monday! All the more reason for tomorrow to be a big day (?). I have this little dream that tomorrow is like the top of the bell curve for acceptance notices. But again, I have been a nutter about thinking each day is *the one* so I m not really in a position to trust my intuition. Vive le Cascadia!

Congrats!

Hi there: This looks like a good group of people to comiserate with. I have been lurking and enjoying your posts. Nice to know I am not the only one going through this maddening process. Good luck to everyone. I think tomorrow might be a big day for notifications, but I have been telling myself that for the past two weeks!

You cite a bunch of sources (not too many, but enough to make you look academic-minded) and forget to include the fucking bibliography/reference list in 5/9 SOPs.
