  1. Thanks for the update Yale has already conducted NT interviews this week. 3 candidates were from Yale out of X amount of applicants interviewed. Also, my understanding is that interviews are a necessary part of the process if you are to be admitted.
  2. So, I know it's already been confirmed, but I had an interview with UT Austin for the AMR track this week. I got an email sometime last week to set it up. I think pretty much the whole AMR faculty was there. I wish I could comment on Religion in the Americas track.
  3. I saw on the results page about a PTS pre-interview arranging a Skype interview . Does anyone know if the committee has done it's thing?
  4. I haven't heard back yet, but I'm sure it's coming soon. Like the person who posted on the results page, I submitted a hurried application to get the application in time for a fee waiver.
  5. I doubt anyone here applied to Psychology programs; you might want to check out the psychology forum: http://forum.thegradcafe.com/forum/8-psychology/
  6. Just saw a Brown acceptance go up. Congrats! Was it anybody here? If so, what subfield are you?
  7. It seems to depend on the school. One of the best ways--though not the surest--is to check past forums here. Each year a new group is set up to discuss doctoral applications, so there's often more information in them then using the search feature of results. From your list, I know Yale calls or emails to schedule an interview. I don't know if the rest necessarily do so.
  8. I hear that Brown will be making decisions soon according to a friend I emailed there. She didn't have much info, except that it was her understanding that decisions will be made soon and that all would hear back before the end of the month--I know not too helpful. Yale is conducting interviews right now. I believe that includes HB. No clue about BU or Brandeis, but a contact at Fordham said Fordham normally makes decisions the end of Jan./first week of Feb. and announce soon afterwards. Since no one has posted (from my search on the results) anything from Fordham just yet, then my guess is they haven't informed anyone yet.
  9. I assume that if Marquette's historical theology program has heard, then it holds true for JCA track as well. Do you know when interviews were sent out?
  10. Nice, the longevity of that cohort of scholars is really impressive. Bad for those looking for tenured positions, but imagine the luxury of teaching for close to 50 years.
  11. (Sorry for the double quote; no idea how to undo this) Is Gaventa not retiring soon? She's near 70, but then again Charlesworth is still chugging along. I know Adela Yarboro Collins retired from Yale last year. They haven't replaced her yet. Longenecker though would be exciting.
  12. Does anyone have information about when to expect interview notifications from Marquette, CUA, or Fordham? I know Marquette does Skype interviews, but what about CUA and Fordham?
  13. What is drawing you to Baylor? JCA to work with Spittler. We shall see! Best of luck to you as well
  14. Thanks for the heads up. Fingers crossed. I'll spend my weekend convincing myself if I don't hear anything Monday, then "early network" means Monday-Thursday. What program did you apply for?
  15. Yes, not sure when they meet and make offers. I noticed in the results page that they appear to forgo interviews, so acceptance/rejection might come at anytime. Do you have any idea of the wait?
  16. Hope I didn't come across trolling--I was repeating information I saw last year. I know the trolling thing is spot-on: last few years I recall Duke, Chicago, and--I think--Yale "interviews" were added to the results page. We all know about when these things come out, so somebody trolls us--possibly someone spurned or just looking to create mayhem. Same goes for those Academia.edu hits some have mentioned. If you include part of your name and region/school, people look you up to see how they stack up. So, if you get a hit from Bosie, it's me. If you get a hit from ATL, it's probably an M* getting information about you--not a 60 year old who struggles with emails and thinks Google and Bing are different portals to the internet. If you're completely clandestine, then those hits are probably legit.
  17. If you check the last couple years of PhD chitchat, it seems they "interview" one person per field. I say "interview" because it seems to be a formality since the one person invited to campus is offered admittance to the program.
  18. Hi All: I'm applying to doctoral work as well in NT. I feel unsure, but I think that's basically everyone. I took the GRE back in July (168v/157Q). I want to getting my Q up, but I hear that it's not nearly as important as the V. My undergrad studying history and concentrating in Egyptology (Ptolemaic Egypt), so I have Demotic, Hellenistic Greek, papyrology, Coptic. I am finishing an MA at a prestigious school for biblical studies focusing on furthering my Greek and working on Hebrew and Aramaic (both at advanced levels this year). I've participated in a few conferences presenting papers and did the LXX summer school last year at Gottingen. Recommendations are from senior scholars who are well respected. I'm wanting to get suggestions for schools, but right now I am working on applications to Notre Dame (first choice), Yale, Harvard, UT, Emory, and Duke. Ideally, I'd like to send about 10 applications, but I haven't finished researching what's all out there.
  19. I have friends that have had around 3.7 GPAs and got into tier 1 schools. My best friend received a B+ in Aramaic and still scored a spot in ND's CJA. As far as I understand it, grades are solid indicators that a student has taken his or her classes seriously, but adcoms don't pick the 3.98 applicant over the 3.89 on the basis of GPA. That said, everyone has had that professor, like Aubstopper mentioned, who is impossible to please. I had a professor who just didn't like me; she liked everyone else though. It happens. Few people maintain a 4.0 through graduate school. Calculate your GPA and see how far another B would drop you. If you are still in the 3.8 area, I personally--key word, personally--wouldn't withdraw for fear of a B. Before you make any decisions be sure to visit the website for your top picks to see if they list the average GPA of incoming PhD students in your field.
  20. The same happen to me last year when I applied for master's work at a couple of divinity schools that offered great stipends. Within a couple of weeks of submitting my application my academia.edu account received visits from the same location as the two schools, one in Atlanta and one in Dallas. Could have been a coincidence, but the next day I formally finished setting up my academia.edu account and uploaded papers.
  21. That is very exciting! Congrats! I am applying next year to the same program. In your SOP did you stress working with the NT department as a whole or did you single out a professor as your major person of interest?
