  1. Congratulations everyone! Was this a form email? Any IR people heard?
  2. Would the most recent MIT admit by e-mail be down to share some details?
  3. Whoever it is that has put in 30 apps and just got into Columbia. I salute you. Congratulations!!
  4. I'll also be sporting a mullet for the same purpose.
  5. 1. Subfield Chair 2. I'll send a PM 3. Fully funded for five years but no summers 4. No change 5. I'm sorry I don't have much more here. Will likely be speaking to my POI in the next couple of days so I'll try to get some more info for you'll. I actually mentioned gradcafe and how I was nervous after seeing some acceptances. That's when he mentioned final lists only having just been made and calls being made according to individual professors
  6. Hey there, I can claim the Georgetown acceptance! I'm an IR person. Sorry forgot to put the subfield in when I submitted. Still pretty shocked right now Apparently they made decisions Friday and are slowly but surely calling people so definitely don't lost hope!
  7. Anyone claiming the Georgetown admits? Which fields are you folks in?
  8. Congrats to the UW admits! Great program and special congratulations to cautious! Guessing no further updates from Cornell for anyone?
  9. Just saw it too. Thanks. That's my top choice.
  10. Has anyone with an IR subfield heard from Cornell?
  11. Congratulations to all the new admits! Huge day Question for you Berkeley admits: any changes to your status online?
  12. Hey guest, I feel the same bittersweet way about gradcafe. I was a long time lurker and only recently began posting and this wait period is really something. But as someone who doesn't know anyone else applying to PhD programs at the moment it is really great to have others share my anxiety and see people whose thoughts you are now reasonably familiar with start getting into schools. In terms of your questions: In terms of location: I'm younger than most people applying to programs and would be relatively speaking ok with doing other things than getting a PhD for a couple of years so I made my list relatively narrow and location definitely factored in. That said, a couple of schools of mine are the best fit for me and aren't in the nicest metropolitan places but seemed worth it for the faculty. I also spoke to a professor of mine and he said that the school in ithaca many of us applied to, from his sources, often has one of the closest cohorts because of its relative remoteness and also that being in a place away from a city can be very good because you will want to get out regularly. This means you will take a break which apparently is very hard to convince yourself to do when in gradschool. I did an interdisciplinary undergrad degree with a lot of political economy. That said I want my work to draw on a lot of sociology so I'm hoping to go to a place with a strong soc program as well

  14. Definitely excited to be studying IR after this, though definitely disappointed on his ambiguity regarding drones. I knew before it would be a long shot to be discussed but still. This was definitely one of his better sotus, and actually made me feel american (despite the fact that I am not though live here and have a very complicated relationship with this place). Some very solid actionables on the domestic front. The republican responses have been abysmal so far...
  15. Congrats Tremblay! I'm in Toni's boat, where most schools I applied to don't release till at least first week of Feb, so my gradcafe activity is likely not very healthy. My birthday is, however, in the first week of feb so I'm hoping a POI or two notice this and decide to give me some good news that day...
  16. I'd recommend looking at Columbia's SIPA. They recently launched a new center on the study of energy and have some interesting faculty there, not to mention the Earth Institute. Definitely check out Berkeley (for masters or phd in environmental stuff and form what I remember they have specific programs around energy policy, their polisci isn't doing much related to energy yet). I'd also look into MIT's PoliSci PhD, the school as a whole has a number of energy initiatives and their polisci staff takes your areas very seriously
  17. Any thoughts on when MIT might release their results? The results page seems pretty varied between the first week and the last week of Feb - not to mention they seem like true believers in the postal service
  18. Congratulations cautiously optimistic! Great news And good luck to whoever still has apps out there. All this results chatter has me a little too anxious for my liking and I'm sure many feel the same way. The last month, since I graduated, I have devoured some television. If any political junky has not yet watched the West Wing that must be done. Sherlock is fascinating and incredibly well made. Scandal is the epitome of guilty pleasure. Political movies that must be watched: All the President's Men, Good Night and Good Luck, Last King of Scotland, The Lives of Others (german: Das Leben der Anderen) Hannah Arendt wasn't too bad either Hope that helps distract
  19. Hey Folks, I'm applying for IR with a focus on IPE to a bunch of places. This is my first post. I've been tracking the discussions here for quite a while and I just wanted to say thank you to all the posters. I've gotten a lot out of it but didn't have all that much to contribute. I just submitted 5 apps in the last two days and my last one isn't due for a little while. Good luck everyone!
