  1. How could you know this? Do you go to the school in question (i.e., are you an undergrad or MA student there)? Anyway, thanks for the info! This is exciting. ... Of course, I'll be rejected, but whatevs.
  2. Excellent question. I highly doubt Michigan has released all its acceptances. I know that some applicants don't post their results on TGC, but you'd think that more than two would post for a given school (esp. one as fine as Michigan). I hope that UPenn and Indiana announce soon. I bet they will either on Friday or next Monday.
  3. Ooh, I love Parfit.
  4. Bad answer. I bet you're a fine philosopher. And you might be accepted somewhere yet.
  5. I fry bagels in vodka and top them off with hot sauce.
  6. Thales. So, so lame. "All is water"? Uh, except no ...
  7. Thx! I do hope you hear positive news soon.
  8. Um, I hope not. ... I applied there.
  9. This is immensely helpful. (One correction: at least some Arizona wait lists have gone out.) I'm surprised that so few rejections have gone out at this point. You and ianfaircloud deserve Olympic gold! ... K, that was cheesy and unforgiveable.
  10. Does anyone have any info on the Virginia wait list?
  11. Arizona wait listed me! Hooray! Now I can say that I've been at least quasi-successful.
  12. Brilliant.
  13. I had missed the first thing. Still, some programs have idiosyncratic admissions processes. So, just because some acceptances and wait lists have gone out from School X doesn't mean that they all have, especially since it's only February 9th. Of course, I can understand Platonist's concern. There are ten or eleven programs to which I applied that haven't sent out both acceptances and wait lists. If that number were two, I'd be even less psychologically stable than I am now (which is saying something). But I think I would be reassured to hear the point about idiosyncratic admissions processes. We know that ianfaircloud has had trouble predicting when certain schools would release their first decisions (e.g., Chicago, Michigan). Just think of all the other things related to the admissions process that we can't easily predict. (By the way, I adore ianfaircloud's blog. I am in no way criticizing it.) Your second point seems to apply to anyone who hasn't yet been accepted somehwere, however, not to Platonist in particular. Anyway, not trying to be argumentative really. Just think that you're being a tad too presumptuous.
  14. Did I miss something? Why do you think Platonist is probably being shut out? (I really must have missed something (s)he said on an earlier page of this thread.) It's February 9th ... ?!?!
  15. My god, your blog and now this pie chart?! Everything you do is amazing. So much for staying off TGC, DHumeDominates.
  16. I'm going to take a break from TGC unless/until I'm accepted somewhere. Right now it's way too depressing.
  17. Hmm. There is, of course, an obvious distinction between drinking (in moderation) and being an alcoholic.
  18. I'm not very interesting, but thanks.
  19. I know Brandeis does. I guess I'll apply there ... ... and then be rejected.
  20. I'm surprised you were courageous enough to state this publicly, without anonymity. Kudos to you.
  21. I'm experiencing the same paralyzing self-doubt for the same reason: a UNC rejection. Only in my case, I didn't apply to any MAs. Whoops. Guess I'll just have to reapply next year. Fml.
  22. *Sigh* ... but congrats to him/her!
  23. I don't want to rain on your parade, dgswaim, but I wouldn't infer that your application was not, according to Baylor, "repulsive." The first UNC rejections went out on the first or second of February (if memory serves), and yet I didn't receive my rejection until yesterday (the 5th). Moreover, according to the results page, the rejection emails sent on the first or second were written by a member of the philosophy department, whereas mine, and that of at least one other person rejected on the 5th, was an automated email written by the dean of the graduate school. I inferred from all of that that I was really rejected. I wasn't even good enough to be let down by a philosopher. ... Hopefully, Baylor does things differently! Good luck!
  24. I applied there and haven't heard anything. According to ianfaircloud's splendid blog, Notre Dame should be out tomorrow (or maybe next Monday). But who knows ...
  25. I saw that figure on its website. It did strike me as somewhat high. The admit rate must be around 12.5%, perhaps slightly lower. So, it's out of the 5-10% range, but still quite selective. It obviously doesn't mean that the incoming class is 25. The 25 figure probably refers to everyone who receives a first round acceptance and everyone who is accepted off of the wait list. But this is just speculation.
