So I had my interview schedule for a phd program today (via Skype) at 3:30. At 2pm I got a call to my cell phone from what I thought was the program. It turns out that it is the head doctor from a VERY good government research position I applied to as a back up to grad school!! We had an amazing interview and she wants me to fly 1000 miles to her next week to meet in person (I will be moving to that location in 3 weeks).... First world problems I am contending with 1. I teach college biology, and have finals and grades due next week so the earliest I could go is Friday. 2. She only has until April 30th to make a decision, so there is no time 3. I still had my phd interview and they won't inform me until next week.... My husband says that I do t have to let her know about my possible grad school entrance, but I don't like being deceitful. And what if I turn her down only to find out that I didn't get into school? School would always come first to me, but I feel like I am dating 2 people at once right now, and that it is all going to go terribly wrong... Soooo... Help! Should I tell her about the grad program? Should I tell the grad program about the job offer?

It is for a PhD. I have a conference room set up at the university where I work, so hopefully that will make it seem less awkward than sitting at my desk. They sent a request for a half hour interview, with some of my faculty choices. I think they are spring break this week, so it will be interesting to see the turn out. Since it is so short, what types of questions did they ask you? Or was it more of a brief describe your research. And did you get an offer after the interview? Thanks for the info!

Ahahahah!!! I landed a skype interview for next week! This was my only positive outcome from this application season, so I am very excited. I have to compile my list of faculty I want to talk with by Monday. I am so nervous! For those that have done Skype interviews, how did it go for you? I know it is not the ideal situation, but I am hoping that it still is a positive outcome.

I called the office 2 weeks ago, and was told that they were still reviewing applications. I applied through CSH, and I just wanted to get confirmation that they had my app, but I haven't been given any info at all (so I still don't know if they really do have it, lol). So yesterday I emailed as well, and I am still waiting to hear. I don't want to be too much of a pain, but it would be nice to get some type of response.

Is there anyone who has still not heard anything from Stony Brook? Specifically the MCB program.

And down comes the axe... rejection from Albert Einstein, finally.

Info for Stony Brook MCB applicants, I just called over there and they are still reviewing applications.

"We will be sending out decisions at the end of the month" Ah... more waiting.

So I lost track, is Albert Einstein Yeshiva done with invites?

If you choose to wait until after the test to report results, then you have to pay $25 per school to have it sent. If you choose your schools before the exam, then you get 4 score reports sent at no charge. I think it is worth it to wait until after, and just suck up the extra money instead of reporting a bad score.

Does anyone know if stony brook always holds interviews? Or do they just go straight to acceptance for some (for the mcb programs)? There are a scarce amount of interviews posted on the results page.

There isn't a good review book for this test. Your best bet is to look at the practice test and review the topics they have listed there, and to read your genetics, biochem, and molecular biology text books. It is a really tough test, especially if you haven't taken those classes in a while. Unless your program absolutely requires it, or you are sure you are going to score above the 80th percentile, you should avoid it. You should also check out Kevin Ahern's biochemistry youtube channel. When you click on one of his videos, look under the "about" section. He has a free text book and courses you can take to help study. He is an amazing biochem teacher and makes the material a lot easier to get through. Good luck!

For those waiting on Stony Brooks Molecular and Cell Bio program, I just called and they said that they are still reviewing applications. I am pretty sure that Einstein and Stony Brook will be the death of me.

So they have a few more spaces for interview invites, and they suspect that by next week they will have them all sent out...... soooo.... still waiting.

Is there a particular person you were contacting for the info, and do you have their number? Or should I just call a general admissions number?

I think we need to start a box pool on when Einstein and Stony Brook will send out invites/rejections. I need something to take away from my insanity.

I haven't gotten anything from Einstein, and I submitted my app Nov 11th. I am also waiting on Stony Brook and can't get an answer either way!

I am still waiting on einstein, and got my rejection from nyu last week. I am also waiting on stony brook, but it can't get ahold of anyone there.

Official Rockefeller reject here! That was a long shot anyway. I like the fact that they kept us informed, and didn't make it a long, drawn-out process.

Just so I can live vicariously through you guys, what did the email say? lol (I applied, but fully expect to be rejected)
