You aren't alone on that thought! What do you plan to do if you don't get in? I am already trying to set up contacts to work in a lab in the meantime. I am moving from Florida to New York this summer, so it's like starting over from day one with my life, lol. Then I am going to apply to the New York area programs again next year. Because of my family situation (older, married with a kid) I am limited to just that region (which is unfortunately highly competitive). I'll take another shot at this next year, and then after that I need to go for plan b and move on. -

I'll jump on that bandwagon. "No news is good news" does not apply here. -

It would be in his best interest to make him do the research into his future. It doesn't look good in any grad schools eyes to have the parents getting info for someone who is supposed to be a responsible adult. And I know my saying this may come across as mean, but I teach at a college with a masters program, and they HATE it when parents inquire for students. Plus, this is good practice in research. -

Just got this email from Rockefeller: Thank you for submitting an application to the David Rockefeller Graduate Program at The Rockefeller University. All applicants who are selected for an interview will be notified the evening of January 14, 2014. Our interview dates are February 27-28 and March 6-7, 2014. Please try to keep these dates free until you hear from us. My heart dropped to my stomach when I saw the email pop up on my screen, lol. No news is good news at this point! -

So, I'm not feeling too good about getting into school. Time to start updating linkedin. How many plan on applying next year if you don't get in this year? -

I am in the same boat as you. You just have to hope that someone reads your application file that can look past the numbers, and sees the person as a whole. Everyone says how they want a well rounded person to apply, and numbers don't matter, but I don't know how much of that can be true. And I am in no way discrediting those who have kept straight A's their entire career, and stellar research. They deserve these interviews, but so do we. Sometimes life gets in the way and we shouldn't be penalized for that. It's still early in the game, I am sure you guys will get in somewhere! -

Oh, and I swear I am not an idiot, even though the gre subject exam says otherwise. I had to teach an overload this summer when I was supposed to be studying, on top of studying for the regular gre which was 3 weeks prior. And let's be honest, that test is just ridiculous. I should have taken the regular biology one, or none at all! -

Btw, I have already gone through the stages of grieving and it's only the very beginning, lol. In my head I have switched careers 6 times, went through all of my plan B's and have given up on science to become an artist. Cheers to a meltdown! -

Why is it taking the NY programs so long to send out interviews?! The waiting game is killer.
