  1. Anyone heard anything more from Michigan yet?
  2. I only applied to places where most of the graduates get tenure track jobs after graduating. I don't care if it's an R1 university or a shitty one in rural Tennessee, I'll be happy either way. I would also like to point out that a place like famae volent is going to skew pretty significantly to the negative. Most of the people on there on the people that don't get jobs - there's not really any reason to keep on at a place like that if you get hired. Not to say that finding an academic job isn't difficult, but my instincts (and very basic knowledge of formal statistics) say that a place like that will make things seem even bleaker than they actually are.
  3. Same, nor from NYU. I also haven't heard anything at all from UPenn, but I applied to Ancient History and not Classical Studies. Not sure whether interviews got sent out at the same time for Ancient History as for Classical Studies.
  4. At least according to them, they are only flying in a few people from their shortlist, but that everyone on the shortlist is still in consideration. Presumably, however, the people they fly in are those they are most impressed with from the short list.
  5. For Classics or one of the interdepartmental programs?
  6. Also, how are people's interviews going? I feel like mine with Michigan went half ok and half shitty. I felt like I answered all of their questions about why I would fit in at Michigan well (also we ended up talking about Vonnegut and American Hustle for about half the interview), but I think my nervousness caught up to me when they asked about my research interests, and I didn't explain my ideas very well/in an easy to follow manner.
  7. Agreed, at least for me (Homer + Ancient Near East), Michigan and Harvard seem complementary. And Chicago seems like the most obvious place for me with the PAMW track...
  8. Looks like Harvard and UChicago are out.
  9. Got an email (at 11:00pm on a Friday ) saying I'd been selected for the interview shortlist at Michigan.
  10. I have a lot of strong connections at Columbia, I'm surprised I didn't at least get an interview for Classical Studies.
  11. Looks like I can probably scratch Princeton off the list then.
