  1. Another potential explanation that I've heard of for other grad schools (not sure how SLP works with regards to this, though) is that if you're a particularly good candidate and they're not sure if you'd actually attend or not, they may waitlist you to test and see if you're legitimately interested in them or if you were just using them as a safety school. Again, don't know if SLP grad schools do that, but just a thought....
  2. Also, lorenzojojo, UCF does Spring and three year.
  3. It's up to you, but that is the point that I'd pull away all together. I considered it earlier when I was super anxious. Thankfully, my anxiety died down on its own as I came to the realization that it doesn't matter how much time I spend fretting, the decision is out of my hands at this point and I have no control over it. And since I have no control, I may as well stop worrying and spend my time on other pursuits.
  4. Well, whichever website you make, I can't wait to check it out!!!! (And, you know, you can make more than one! lol Come to think of it, I think I've probably made about eight weebly websites over the past four years.) Thanks so much! I'm so glad you saw that video! Yeah, it is so sad when that happens. I could not believe that they sang a WHOLE SONG telling that kid that because he was autistic it was a miracle he had a friend (and let's face it, that kid wasn't his friend, seriously all the guy ever did was sit with him at the table). I cannot IMAGINE being that child. My sister gets that kind of behavior all the time. I don't remember if I mentioned it in the site, but do you know I can't call my sister cute? Not even if she's wearing a green beanie that looks like a frog (which you could put on VOLDEMORT'S head and he'd look adorable because it's just that cute) or hugging her adorable plush Utahraptor (which again, I say, even if Voldemort was doing it we'd all agree he looked cute because it is THAT cute). The reason why is that phrases like, "You're so cute!" have been used to demean and degrade Caley over her entire lifetime. I introduced her to one of my friends (thankfully not too close of a friend) once and it was just disturbing because she immediately switched to baby voice and fawned over Caley and talked down to her (and let me make it clear, Caley's probably smarter than my friend) and, yes, she told her how cute she was and literally patted her on the head. My friend was well-meaninged as all of the negative narrative is, but wow was that offensive and Caley deals with that all the time. It's just upsetting. And once you notice the narrative, you'll start to see it everywhere....
  5. Wow, wished I'd thought to check schools for this BEFORE the app cycle began. Kudos for realizing the importance of EBP, wish more people did.
  6. This next year, maybe try getting your prereqs? That way you'd be able to apply to more programs next year. There are a bunch of online post-baccs in CSD that you could do. You would also be able to reframe it as not, I didn't get in to the Master's program, but as I'm going about getting the experience in a different way for the first year of the three, and the other two you'll be in a Master's program. Just a thought.
  7. Awwww....thanks! Yeah, I agree, people here are awesome, I wish I could meet all of you! (Hopefully I'll meet at least some in grad school!) May I ask what the other three areas are?
  8. Glad you like the forum! If you're happy, we're happy. And if that's one of the more competitive schools you applied for, that bodes well for the rest of your schools. :)
  9. Isn't it great?! I don't know the first thing about coding, but I actually made my first website when I was in high school thanks to Weebly! That's actually what I used to make Autism Spectrum Explained. :D When you finish your website, you'll have to share it with us! What's the subject?
  10. That is actually one of the cool things about Weebly - you can actually make a website in just a few hours! As for Texas State, I applied there too but haven't heard anything yet - did you mean latest or last?
  11. You should totally make a Weebly website! ( http://www.weebly.com ) Seriously, it's free and fun!
  12. Fair warning to you guys. Don't know if you saw, but another member mentioned it in the Application Anxiety thread, FSU has moved their deadline to let us hear back from them from March 1st (Saturday) back to March 15th. :( :( :( So those of us who applied there will have to wait a little bit longer to find out if we go accepted or not. :(
  13. Sorry you had a rejection, but glad you realize you've got seven more schools! (the nice thing about applying to so many)
  14. Oh, fantastic! Having read the proficiency guidelines, I am at the very least there, probably higher. I feel SO much better now! Thanks a million! Also, wow, might I add that intermediate mid or high is a really low bar to set? I was surprised...
  15. Fudgesicle. That was the same program I was referring to. :( :( Glad you warned me in advance, though, or I would have been very sad come Saturday!
Here's hoping we all get into the schools we want! :)
  17. I surely hope not! I'm praying that on Saturday my anxiety drops hugely because I'll know I got into a school. Assuming, that is, that I get in. Oh my goodness, SATURDAY IS SO CLOSE YET SO FAAAAAAAAAAAAR!
  18. I do a LOT of volunteering. As the username suggests, it's pretty much straight autism-related. My autism website, while not traditional volunteering, is run solely on my time and I get no compensation, so I'd call that volunteering. Plus my sister and I go around educating parents about autism and I'm making a penpal program for kids on the spectrum and their siblings to bond through. Recently my volunteering has been making me kind of depressed. Like, either I need to come up with a new worldview or pull back a little and redefine myself a bit more outside of the advocacy circles, because wow. Let's just say autismland can be a pretty depressing and lonely place to be, not because of the autistic people, who are generally awesome, but because of depressing and seriously hard to counter myths and societal narratives about them. It's like a never ending fire - every time I manage to put one out, another one springs up. For a while you feel great - you're fighting fires, after all, and that's very rewarding - but after a while of doing that, it gets exhausting and saddening, because while I'm a 'fire fighter' by choice, I know that the autistic people these narratives/myths are about are stuck in that firey room no matter what, and the only way they can escape it is if the fire is put out. Well, and also help teaching them how to fight fires themselves, too, which I do, but it's still not enough... Anyways, I just extended that metaphor way too far, but know that it's tough sometimes and that was my point, and sorry for complaining...
  19. Congratulations, felicidades, and 恭喜 TerapistaRae! (Sorry, I thought that was appropriate for a bilingual thread, lol.) I didn't apply there, but I'm very excited to hear your great news!!!!! :)
  20. I hear back from my very first school in one week. ONE WEEK, GUYS! Blessedly, I am not super freaking out, but I am SUPER impatient to know! I really hope they do acceptances on time, it would be very saddening if they were late.
  21. SLPamy, congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) So excited for you! And JDGrosman, there is no way to know for sure but the next best think is going to the "Result Search" at the top of every page here and seeing when people heard back last year. Although it seems like DeafAudi already summarized that for you.
  22. It's not going to hurt, and it might help. So yes, I would totally do it.
  23. People are dumb. But there is no reason whatsoever that they should be and I wish you both the best of luck!!!!!! :)
  24. I had to take the GRE twice myself, just because it's a really hard test to get a feel for if you're not used to CAT testing. Lost some money, but I think the higher score is worth it. Yes, it completely is. Yikes! I mean, yay! I dunno what to feel, I just hate the waiting because it feels even more intense the closer we get to it.
