  1. Yours is different MPollywog because it was an interview follow-up. Quite frankly, I think it would have been out of place had you NOT thanked the interviewer afterwards for taking his time to consider you. I am pretty sure your POI agrees, given that he sent you a nice email back. Don't stress about this, you did good.
  2. Canis, this could not be more right. I have my freak outs, too, don't get me wrong. But we all put our best foot forward, and if it doesn't get me in the door this year then there is probably some reason for it -- either something else I need to do or some other reason why it will be better to start a program a year from now (or, maybe, not at all). It's so easy to be fixated on one specific outcome, even when it is not the best thing for you. I know this from personal experience and so I've told myself to *try* to have a more zen attitude about this whole thing. Either way, it will all work out.
  3. That's amazing!!! Congratulations!
  4. I did this too, Jump! Excel is a wonderful thing. Now if only there was a way to make it mid-February....
  5. Thanks daykid -- and congrats!
  6. That's actually encouraging to know, anthrogeek. I keep picturing committees picking names out of a hat. I wouldn't want to be at a program that isn't a good fit, I am sure you are very happy to have ended up where you did. I did have one other question, if you (or anyone) happens to know: do the 2013 grad cafe results provide an accurate indicator of when specific school's decisions are coming down? I didn't know if committees meet the same time every year or if some years they might meet earlier or later. (again, impatient.)
  7. That must have been the most miserable four days of your life. Thank goodness your story has a happy ending! I've decided that it's the small size of these programs that makes this waiting game so nerve-wracking. From everything that's been posted on this forum it sounds like you could have everything going for you-- high GPA & GRE, great recs, strong SoP, pubs -- and still not be accepted. It is a little bit insane.
  8. There's lots of good information here about when faculty committees tend to meet -- anyone know if that means decisions will come shortly thereafter or if there is a lapse in time between when decisions are made and when they are sent? can you tell I'm impatient?
  9. that's helpful to know, Canis & Anthrogeek thanks.
  10. To answer the OP, I did not apply to Duke but read the SoPs and decided on a more even mix between research and personal. Canis, which programs require an MA? I did not see that requirement for any of the programs I applied to, but now am wondering if I missed it.
  11. thanks anthropologygeek (and yikes!)
  12. Hi all, I'm applying for sociocultural anthro programs. Could admissions decisions really come anytime between now and Spring? I was under the impression that decisions were sent out in March, but I am not sure where I came upon that understanding -- it's possible I made it up.
